"Soo-Yin....please....I can't lose you..." I muttered as my heart started to feel heavy. I just stared at her. I felt like I was in a nightmare.
"She's precious to you, isn't she?" Nurse Baek asked sweetly.
"Y-y-yes she--" I stuttered. I couldn't even finish my statement because the other nurse came in to take Soo-Yin for her x-rays, CT scan and MRI. I stood up immediately, backing up away from the bed, allowing the nurse to unhook what all she needed to with ease.
"Don't worry sir. We'll have her back soon, I promise." the other nurse said as she pushed Soo-Yin's bed out through the door. I watched as Soo-Yin disappeared from my sight, my stomach turning in knots. I sat back down in the chair I was previously sitting in, burying my face in my hands.
"It's my fault....it's all my fault....it's all my fucking fault..." I said. I felt someone's hand on my shoulder and I looked up; it was Nurse Baek.
"I understand what you're feeling right now. I felt guilty when I thought I jeopardized my husband's chances to get into a prestigious college. Instead, he chose to go to the same university as me." Nurse Baek replied.
"But that's not as serious as getting hit by a car." I said sternly.
"Well...see, I was actually hit by a car too. A similar scenario to your girlfriend. I had followed my husband to where he was supposed to go take his entrance exam for a high ranking college. I dropped a stuffed animal that was on my person, in the middle of a crosswalk. My husband continued walking, but deep down he knew I was following him. I went back to the crosswalk to grab it, not paying attention to the sign for people stop. Next thing I know, I was hit by a car. I don't remember much else after that. I woke up at the hospital. Baek Seung-Jo had come to the hospital and I told him how guilty I felt. He said there was no need to feel guilty, as he didn't take the entrance exam for that college. But--it didn't stop me from feeling guilty and upset about it." Nurse Baek replied.
