Chapter 3

That Afternoon

Alya's Perspective

Alya walked out of the school with Nino, Marinette, and Adrien. Nino and Adrien were discussing some anime that they both loved, and Marinette was rambling on about the latest commission she had gotten from Jagged. Alya would have been a lot more skeptical about whether it was true, or just a lie for attention, if Marinette wasn't going on and on about the fabric she needed, the stitching that was going to take forever, or the exact shades that she still had to decide on.

It hadn't escaped Alya's notice that Lila had started mentioning that she wasn't sure whether Marinette was being truthful with them, that she might be lying to them for attention. Truth be told, Alya had almost believed her, but then she remembered how Marinette met Jagged at the career day at Le Grand Paris.

Alya seethed at that little liar. Trying to make her think that Marinette was lying for attention. But she will expose her in front of everyone, making sure that the liar never hurts another friendship like hers again.

"-ya! Alya, come on!," Marinette called. Alya realized that she had been out of it for a minute or two. "Alya, come on. We're going to my house," the bluenette told her. Alya smiled at her.

"Sure, girl. Wait!" Alya called as she got an idea. "We should have Adrien join our takedown planning session!" Alya told her. Alya didn't see anything wrong with the idea, and she knew that Adrien hated spending time at his house alone. But clearly Marinette didn't feel that way.

Marinette's smile faded, and she looked down at her feet. "I don't know if that's such a good idea," Marinette said. Alya was confused. Why not Adrien? He was such a sunshine child, of course he would want to help.

"Why not?" Alya asked. Marinette bit her lip, clearly trying to decide whether or not to tell her. Alya grabbed her friend's wrist gently, and looked in her eyes. "You can tell me, girl."

Marinette sighed. "I already told Adrien that Lila was lying. But he said that we had to take the high road. That if we exposed her she would just get akumatized." Marinette's eyes filled with sadness. "He said that her lies weren't hurting anyone."

Alya was shocked. Adrien had said all those things? She was suddenly filled with righteous anger on behalf of her best friend. 'I am going to punch that boy!' Alya thought angrily.

Still holding Marinette's wrist, Alya started walking towards the boys. They were talking outside of Adrien's limo, clearly trying to spend as much time as possible with each other before Adrien had to leave. Alya marched furiously towards them, Marinette being pulled behind her.

"Hey, boys," Alya called. "We are all going to Marinette's. No arguments." Nino and Adrien looked at her, confused, although for different reasons. Nino was wondering why Alya looked on the brink of murder, and was concerned for whoever it was. Adrien was wondering why he was being invited to Marinette's house, and why said girl was being dragged behind Alya by her wrist.

"I can't," Adrien told her. "Father expects me home." Alya rolled her eyes. That boy really needed a healthy dose of teenage rebellion.

"So don't ask him, tell him," she said. "He knows where Marinette lives, and ever since the design competition, he doesn't hate her. So if he doesn't like it, tough cookies." Adrien was unsure of what to do. He had never stood up to his father like that before.

Alya saw his indecision, and decided to act before he backed out. She let go of Marinette's wrist and walked towards the limo. She opened the door, and saw Gabriel Agreste on a screen.
