"Levi, where are we going?" I whined as I stared out the window of Levi's car, watching as the trees flew by in a blur. "You'll see," he replied.
I swear to god, I could hear the fucking smirk in his voice, that damn midget.
I huffed and crossed my arms, slouching in the seat. Ever since I was little, I'd hated secrets, even though I'd kept some as well. However, the ones that I kept were, like, if-you-tell-the-world-will-end-and-burritos-will-go-extinct kind of secrets. In other words, really important secrets. Not I'm-keeping-this-from-you-because-I-feel-like-it kind of secrets.
In other words, "Levi's Secrets".
Step aside, Victoria.
As we drove along in silence, I pondered different places he could've be taking me. I doubted he would take me to the beach, as much as I loved it. He hated it. "It's hot, the sand gets all over you and it's uncomfortable, there are too many people, and the water is nothing but salt, fish, and toddler pee," he'd said one time. "And Eren pee," I'd admitted sheepishly, which resulted in a wide-eyed raven punching my shoulder multiple times until I had a bruise.
And, yes, it did wind up turning into a make out session on the couch. And it was amazing.
"Oi, brat, we're almost there," Levi piped up, snapping me back to the present. "And you've got drool on your face," he added. Quickly, I wiped it away and leaned forward in my seat to try and see where we were. We were at the harbor, but not the beach. Shops lined the right side of the wooden dock, all beach-themed, which filled me with nostalgia. I honestly couldn't remember the last time I'd been to the beach, but the harbor was an even more rare sight to visit.
When I was in eight grade, a couple of bullies "kidnapped" me and took me to the harbor, then threw me over the edge of the railing. It might not have been so bad physically had it not been midnight therefore it was pitch black and the water was freezing cold. One of those bullies, Jean, grew up to be a pretty good friend, although he was still a dick butt.
I don't remember how I got out, but I did, and I don't think I've ever seen Mikasa more pissed off in my life. It was pretty terrifying, to say the least.
Levi parked his car in front of an old shop and unbuckled his seat belt, then stepped out and into the salty air. I followed suit, breathing in the air I hadn't smelt for almost ten years. Glancing over at the water behind me, I gasped at the beauty. From Levi's apartment to the harbor was a half-hour long trip, but we accidentally strayed off course on the way there, so by the time we arrived, it was sunset. The water was beautiful, though. The way the orange and pink tinges of the sky reflected off of it, blending the colors, was truly magnificent. Beside me, Levi grinned at the sight. "Pretty, isn't it?" he asked. I nodded and slipped my hand in his, lacing our fingers together. "Lead the way," I smiled, squeezing his hand gently.
Levi led us to a small shop adjacent to a café called Maria's Café. I smiled at the name. Something about it reminded me of home.
After a waitress showed us to our seats - Levi had requested a two-seater table on the back deck - we scanned the menus and ordered tea and coffee. Before the waitress left, Levi wiggled his finger at her, and she leaned her ear towards him. He whispered something to her, resulting in a wide smile. "Of course!" she exclaimed gleefully, trotting off. I raised an eyebrow at Levi and tried not to grin at his satisfied smirk. "What was that?" I asked cautiously. His smirk grew and he shook his head innocently. "Absolutely nothing," he said. "Mmhm," I teased, crossing my arms and leaning back in my seat, no longer resisting my smile. Levi chuckled and leaned back as well, staring at the water beside us.
Our drinks were brought to us a moment later by a different waiter. I mumbled a short thank you and gingerly sipped my tea, shivering at the sweet/tart taste of it. "This is really good," I commented, taking another sip. Levi nodded and blew on his coffee, then took a large swig, downing half of it in one gulp. "I don't come here often," he started, "but when I do, I'm never unsatisfied."
