Eren's P.O.V.
Levi wasn't at school the next day.Naturally, I jumped to conclusions and assumed it was my fault, which left me feeling depressed and guilty for the rest of the day. I didn't even think to call him when I got home, I just felt so bad without even knowing if it was my fault or not. Armin and Mikasa had a fit about my limp, and Jean had a thing or two to say about it, to which I gave a smart remark about how "I'm sure freckled Jesus has done worse to you, Horseface", which resulted in two blushing messes of boys.
While I laid in bed with my face pressed into the pillow, my room completely dark, I got a phone call from a number I didn't recognize. Groaning, I picked it up, not caring if it might've been that creepy girl from The Ring trying to tell me I had seven days to live.
"EREN!!!!"
An annoyingly loud voice forced me to yank the phone away from my ear, wincing. "Uh, yes?" I replied. I could hear a smile in the girl's voice as she continued. "Hi! I'm Hanji, Levi's bestest friend in the whole wide world! Ring a bell?" she asked. "No, sorry," I apologized, still confused as fudge. "Oh," she said, disappointment now coating her voice. I felt bad, but it wasn't my fault Levi never talked about her.
Ugh, Levi... Now I was depressed again.
"Anyways!" Hanji's voice interrupted my thoughts, and thankfully distracted me a tad. "I assume you're wandering why Levi wasn't at school today," she said more than asked. "Yeah...?" I replied slowly. "Well I'll tell you, you depressing loaf of cuteness! Meet me in front of Levi's apartment," she ordered. "Not the building; his apartment. Got it?" I had no time to respond before the phone beeped and she had hung up.
What was it with people and not asking me if I was okay with things? Sheesh...
In about twenty minutes, I was in the elevator heading up to Levi's apartment. The doors opened, I stepped out, and was instantly tackled by a brunette about my height wearing glasses. "Eren! So glad to finally meet you for real!" she squealed into my ear. I coughed against her shoulder, trying to pry her off of me and failing. "Y-you too, I guess," I wheezed. Smiling, she released me. "Do you have a key?" she asked, gesturing to the door. I nodded and pulled out my keys, singled out the one that Levi had given me, and unlocked the door. The apartment was a bit messier than the first time I'd been there, but I paid it no mind and Hanji grabbed my wrist with impossible strength and speed and dragged me to the couch. I winced as my back slammed against the cushion. The couch was soft, but I was still in pain from Saturday night's events.
As I sat up, Hanji made way to the fridge and retrieved two water bottles, then sat them down on the coffee table in front of us before taking a seat beside me. I noticed with a hint of worry how her playful demeanor had suddenly turned deadly serious. "Um, L-Levi's okay, right?" I asked. Hanji glanced at me and shot me an assuring smile. "He's fine," she said, "It's just that...what I'm about to tell you is serious stuff. I'm debating whether or not you're in a proper state to know. At least up here," she added, tapping my temple. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. What did she mean by "serious stuff"? "Um, if he's fine, then where is he?" I wondered aloud. Hanji shook her head. "Hard to say," she explained. "After I told him, he went running. Don't know where."
"Told him what?"
"What I'm about to tell you.
"Listen to me carefully, Eren." She turned to me and put her hands on top of mine, her eyes so serious it sent shivers down my spine. Not the kind of shivers I got whenever Levi looked at me; those were good shivers. The kind I got then was a shiver signaling bad news.
"A little over 2,000 years ago, our civilization was nothing like it is now. Our numbers had been reduced to a mere thousand, and more were dying each day, either from disease or from being eaten by what we called the 'titans'. These Titans were nearly invincible, but not completely. The smallest we discovered was three meters tall. The tallest...well we thought it was seventeen meters, until the colossal titan appeared and proved us wrong.
"The colossal titan broke the wall that was protecting humans from the titans. The only way it could do this was because it was taller than the fifty-meter-tall wall we had built around the territory that belong to humans. The wall it broke led directly into Shiganshina - where you lived. According to our records, your mother was eaten by a titan right in front of your eyes. I'm still sorry about that, by the way.
"Along with Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert, you joined the 104th Cadet Training Corps. You graduated as fifth out of the top ten of your class and went on to join the Survey Corps. You said it had been your dream, but after we discovered that you had the ability to turn into a titan, you were sent to the Survey Corps for your protection. The man who was responsible for saving you from the Military Police, who wanted to kill you, was Captain Levi and Commander Erwin of the Survey Corps. The Royal Court, however, decreed that they were only allowed to keep you so long as Captain Levi agreed to kill you in the event that you got out of hand. Luckily, you never did. You and Levi grew to be quite the pair, and it wasn't until the day you died that we discovered that you two had been in an intimate relationship.
"And about your death... The day we finally defeated the titans, the Royal Court said that since you could turn into a titan, we had to kill you as well. It wouldn't have been quite as bad if...well... Eren, you were very charming. Everyone loved and admired you, but no one loved you as much as Levi did. The worst part about everything was that the Royal Court made him do it. They made Levi kill you. He refused, and they threatened to take everything from him, to which he replied, 'Eren is my everything, and that's what you're taking from me!' It put everyone in tears, and I'll never forget those words. So, both you and Captain Levi were executed.
"What I'm trying to say, Eren, is that the reason you'd been dreaming of Levi before you ever met him was because you had a past life, and he was a big part of it. You two loved each other more than God loved the Earth. Do you understand what I'm telling you? Or do you think I'm some sort of psychopath?"
I blinked over and over, then rubbed my eyes and blinked again. "S-so, Levi and I loved each other in a p-past life, and our love stood through time and unveiled itself in this life?" I asked, my voice shaky and hesitant.
It was Hanji's turn to blink rapidly as a smile spread across her face. "Well that's a pretty fancy way of putting it, but yes. That's what I mean."
My thoughts whirled as my mind spun. I put my head in my hands, rubbing my temples with my thumbs. A past life... Was that even possible? And if Levi had one too, did Hanji tell him or did he know already? If he knew, how could he have kept it from me? I was torn between confusion and anger, and was about to ask Hanji something when the door flew open.
