"Your background check retained no information except your history at the fire academy." The man you learned was the Lieutenant of the company spoke, pushing up his glasses. You anxiously bit your lip as he held your thin file, occasionally glancing to you and back to your documents. "So, you received special training when you joined the academy? Can anyone confirm this?"

"The captain of the 4th can. He approved of my training, though I wasn't trained by him." You replied nervously, your back stiff as you stood straight in front of Hinawa. His glare felt like it was burning through your skull which made your sweat drop.

"And you received special training for what reason?" He pressed.

You mentally groaned at the thought of being questioned as situations like these made you nervous, even when you had nothing to hide. To you, this felt like an interrogation, and for some unfortunate reason, you were the main suspect.

Usually, you'd be prepared for things like these, but it seems your family had other plans when they not so reluctantly handed in your application for you when you were out cold on the ground. In truth, they only had good intentions when they gave permission for the captain to take you in since they seemed like good people and didn't put you to rest, even though they had plans to do so. Everything happened in the spur of the moment and here you are, standing in front of the lieutenant and captain who was... exercising?

Your eyes trailed off to the captain, finding it easier to look at the less intimidating male who was upside down as his legs hung from a bar.

"At times... I would lose control over my fire and become a bit destructive, so I couldn't train with the other students. That's why I required special training." You carefully said, averting your gaze to the ground so it didn't seem like you were checking him out, or making eye contact.

From the corner of your eye, you could see the lieutenant shake his head as he closed your file. You instantly turned your attention back to him in fear you did something wrong but his eyes weren't locked on you, but the captain, to your surprise.

"Captain, maybe you should make it a habit not to greet new recruits while training." His monotoned words towards the captain seem to only get a chuckle out of him.

"Alright, alright, but maybe you should try not to terrify the newbies. You might scare this one away." Captain Obi retorted as he dropped down from his bar.

An annoyed expression crossed your face as you realized he was referring to you. You weren't necessarily terrified, just a bit nervous since you've never been a part of a company before. You haven't heard much about the 8th and how they ran things. To your knowledge, most companies were strict and hardworking, and some you thought to be shady or treated their soldiers like nothing but a speck of dirt.

"So you're a third gen huh?" Captain Obi asked which you confirmed with a nod. "I'm curious to see if this special training paid off for you. You third gens are something else. Let's see if you can handle Maki," He suggested, already walking to the door. "You can formally introduce yourself to the others as well—"

"Just a minute," Hinawa spoke up, dismissing his higher up with a blank stare. "It isn't wise to throw her into battle with everything that just occurred. She can face Maki another day."

It took a while for you to register what he was saying, but you realized he was concerned for your wellbeing. It was something you needed to hear, that you'll have time to process all of this. You looked at lieutenant Hinawa in a new light— still scary, but still someone you can respect and depend on.
