"She's coming with us. Her family said it was fine, so hopefully, she won't be too upset about it." Captain Obi announced, walking away from the kid from earlier."Yes sir, I'll bring her in." Shinra was the first to respond, quickly walking over to where Maki attended to the girl's unconscious state. "I'll take it from here." With a nod, Maki left the girl in Shinra's care.
Swiping his hands under her knees and shoulders, he lifted her into his arms, making sure to secure her before he started to move. The warmth she brought to him was almost welcoming in a way as she unconsciously snuggled into his chest, the action causing Shinra's heart to skip a beat as he looked down to see the girl comfortably drifting away.
If anyone else were in the same position and woke up to his face, which now displayed an eager-looking smile, he would have been punched, kicked, and trampled. Shinra could only imagine what she would have done, the thought making his stomach turn as he narrowed his eyes and tried to suppress his tic.
I hope she doesn't wake up. I might smile and scare her away like everyone else.
If anyone were to ask him why he held onto her tighter after that, he wouldn't have an answer. Nor an answer for the overwhelming feeling he had to protect her, but he could convince himself it's because it's simply 'what a hero would do'.

Your eyebrows furrowed at the storm that raged on in your head. A heavy feeling washed over your body as you started to reconnect with the world.
Slowly regaining your sense of touch, you started to feel everything around you. The dryness of your throat made itself known along with the aching feeling throughout your body. The ringing in your ears slowly faded into nothingness as you started to wake.
Your eyes fluttered open to the warmth of the rising sun. Its light peaked through the curtains of the room as you cleared your throat. The sunshine graced your skin as you slowly moved to sit up, rubbing one of your eyelids to push the drowsiness away.
Looking over the room, it appeared to be some sort of infirmary. Soft sheets covered your body, and the room was oddly cold, almost freezing. Your head spun as you adjusted your position, trying to come to your senses on where you were. At first, you assumed you were in a hospital, but there wasn't any equipment or commotion that would be in one. All that was left was you alone with the silence as your friend.
You couldn't place how you ended up here either. The last memory you had was Katsumi crying in your arms. Even with that, you had no recollection of the events before. You could only have hope that she was at least safe as you tried to figure out your new surroundings.
Twisting yourself to sit at the side of the bed, you brushed your bare feet against the smooth tile flooring. Thinking back now, you were relieved the room was cold.
As a pyrokinetic, you had to face the problem of burning out and overheating, but your case was far worse. Overheating was a daily struggle for you, whether it be because of using your fire or your emotions got out of hand. In truth, not many scientists understood why it happened so often to you, so eventually, you stopped seeking help.
In your thoughtful gaze of the room, you noticed clothes folded up at the feet of your bed. Running your fingers over the fabric, you changed into them, not wanting to roam the building with nothing but a gown on.
Quickly getting yourself together, you peered out of the room, only to see long empty corridors that carried an eerie atmosphere. The first step you took was hesitant, followed by another nervous step forward. Cautiously, you walked down the hall, making sure to stay close to the wall feeling it'll provide you cover.
