Okay so it is currently about 1:30 AM as I type this but I saw a writing prompt on Pinterest and it was so good! Since the story I would normally use for this is being used for a writing challenge, I'm writing a short story here. Enjoy.
It was the first day of eighth grade. I was seated at my desk, anxiously awaiting the first lesson. All around me blonde heads surrounded me. The teacher began writing on the chalkboard. Two words were printed in dusty white letters. Hair color. I knew I'd finally get an answer to the question I've asked for years. The teacher cleared his throat and spoke. "Our species is rather unique. We have managed to evolve in an extremely bizarre way. Way back when, hair color was random. Now, everyone starts blonde. It shows your innocence." He looked around the room, lingering on me for a moment. "The lighter your hair is, the more innocence you have left. However, once you loose your innocence, your hair turns brown. The more you've lost of it, the darker brown it becomes." He sat down at his desk. I had seen children no younger than 3 with dark brown hair or elders with bright blonde hair. It made me wonder why my hair was black and both my parents were gone.
