(John POV)
Maybe he's not such a golden child after all.We get to our car and Eliza volunteers to sit in the back. By volunteer, I mean Alex shoves the keys in my hand and sits in the passenger seat. Eliza doesn't really have many other options and neither of us are going to argue with the boss's son. He could have us fired at any moment.
That kid is insane. I mean who ignores a plan in what could be a life or death situation, and admits he’s going to ignore it out loud immediately after their boss leaves the room. I don’t know how he’s even alive after those few seconds of interaction.
I start driving to the location and notice Eliza in the rearview mirror. She looks tense as we approach the house. 'Please don't be another house that gave her trauma.' I think to myself as I park. "Let's go, Liz." I hear Alex say as he gets out of the car. "Hey! You don't get to call her Liz!" I yell at him. Probably the wrong thing to do.
“What’s the matter Johnny”, he says, “Nicknames aren’t your thing?” I honestly don’t know if I’m annoyed with him or what anymore. “Just shut up and go to your roof entrance or whatever”, I say wanting him to get away for a bit.
"Gladly." He says and runs off. I turn to Eliza. She looks pale as a ghost. "What's wrong?" I ask her and help her stand up. "U-um… this is my ex's house… the one you helped me get away from… there is no roof access…" she explains. Why that little- I take a deep breath. "Maybe Mr. Perfect has some explaining to do." I grin.
“The boss will kill us if his son gets killed over his own stupidity though-“, Eliza says. I sigh, guess I have to go after the psychopath golden child. “Well reluctant rescue side mission”, I mutter before going to find Alex.
"Wait!" Eliza calls after me. I stop and turn around to face her. "What's wrong?" "The heat sensor says theres no one on the roof. But there is 1 person inside.. maybe this is another set up?" She suggested. She might be right. But why would Washington keep sending us to places Eliza hates?
“Are you guys not coming!”, Alex yells in the distance.
Guess golden child didn’t make it to the roof yet, which means the person inside must be Eliza’s ex. “So we have to bring Stephan back to the base just great”, I say sarcastically."Why would he rob his own house?" Eliza asks and looks around. She gasps a little. "What's wrong?" I ask her. "This isn't his house anymore. The garage is painted blue." She says. "What? How does that prove he doesn't live here anymore?" "He hates blue. Especially that tint. Why would he paint his garage a color he hates?"
“So he’s robbing the new owners?”, I ask. Eliza nods. “Well we should go stop him while we can”, I say. “Are you up to coming with us?”, I ask, “If you’re not ok with seeing him again you can keep guard near the car, you just need to let me know”, I say.
"I'll come with you… you'll protect me right-?" She says quietly. I nod. "Of course I will. That's literally my job." I joke and she laughs. Now to try and catch this douchebag. We go inside and see Alex already about to shoot this man down. Both of them have their guns out, ready to fire. "STOP!" Eliza shouts.
That’s when this idiot looks directly at us and shots Stephen in the leg. “Dad just said bring him there not necessarily alive, and on the plus side he can’t run away now”, Alex says rather proud of himself. I sigh and Eliza says, “That’s not how you’re supposed to run a mission-“
"This is how I run missions." Alex says, cutting Eliza off, "John help me get Stephen to the car. I bet Little Miss Perfect Princess here doesn't want to get her clothes dirty." I scoffed and I could tell Eliza did too. Before Alex could even respond, Eliza and I went over and picked up Stephen, carrying him to the car and stuffing him in the back. The problem was that Alex refused to move from the passenger seat and Eliza was too shaken up to drive. So she was stuck sitting next to Stephen.
“Just hurry up and get us there-“, Eliza says quietly. “I’ll do my best love”, I say and drive back to the base. Well I’ll say the first mission with 3 people has been an absolute dumpster fire and Alex almost got a man killed. Alex is like a cat. I feel like he’ll bat you around until he’s done messing with you then push you off the table.
I focused on driving until I felt a small kick to the back of my seat. Once I reached a red light, I turned and saw Stephen holding Eliza in a choke hold. I guess being shot in the leg didn't affect him too much. "What the heck!?" I scream and him and pull a gun to his head. He releases her and crosses his arms, like a child. Eliza moved away from him and took deep breaths to calm down. "We're almost there." I tell her and speed back to the base.
Once we get to the base Alex drags Stephen inside and I go to check on Eliza. “Are you alright -?”, I ask her. She nods before responding with, “Yeah- just a bit shaken up is all, I’ll be fine in a little bit.” I nod before hugging her. “I’m so sorry you had to deal with that- next time just kick the Tom Cat out of the front seat”, I say. Eliza nods and giggles a bit at the nickname for Alex.
"Hopefully there won't be a next time. I have a limited number of toxic ex's." Eliza says once she calmed down from laughing. I nod. "Only 2 right?" I ask. She nods. "But I have one hecking good boyfriend so I don't need to worry." She answers and pecks my lips quickly before going inside. I trail behind her until we get to Washington's office.
“Well done getting him here”, Washington says, “I don’t have anymore cases at the moment but you three can hang around until your shifts are over incase I get word of another crime.” “Yes sir”, Eliza and I say in unison. “Head back to your office recruits”, Washington says. I nod as Eliza and I head back to our office.
We get there before Alex does just so we can take over the TV. Luckily, we have a couch in our office which is the perfect size for cuddling. "Disney Marathon?" Eliza asks. I nod. "Start with Snow White and end with… uh… Encanto." I tell her. She laughs. "We just watched Encanto though!" I smile. "But it was so good I want to see it again!" I say and nuzzle my nose on her head. She sighs playfully. "Fine."
Alex finally walks into the office and rolls his eyes muttering something under his breath when he sees us. “You two don’t interrupt my writing”, he finally says loud enough for us to hear before grabbing a notebook and starting to write.
As we were watching Aladdin, I couldn't help but laugh out loud. That made Alex roll his eyes and glare at me. "Of course the two people I have to work with are Disney adults." He muttered loud enough for me to hear. I assume Eliza heard him too because her head snapped up. "Oh I'm so sorry that I'm trying to relive the childhood I never had. I spent my childhood working to get where I am today because although my parents had money, I got nothing. So thank you for your arrogant comment about something you have no information on." She snapped.
“Bold of you to assume I had a childhood!”, Alex yells back, “I spent my childhood working too! Living on the streets until I finally worked enough to get money to come to America at the age of 16! Washington isn’t my biological dad, he was just the only man nice enough to adopt me when I got here!” Well this conversation is not one I want to be apart of.
I got up and left the office while Eliza and Alex screamed at each other for a good 30 minutes. I kinda just bounce around from the lounge, to the snack table, to the bathroom and back again. Eventually I just sit in the lounge and watch YouTube until I finally get a text from Eliza asking where I went.
And with that I headed back into the office. “Sorry I didn’t want to interrupt or anything”, I say “But you left me with the gremlin”, Eliza whines. “I’m sorry I just wanted to give you two time to resolve the argument”, I say before hugging her. “Just finish your god dang movie!”, Alex says with frustration and an accent?
