Chapter 8

(John POV)
“We’re going to love you so much!”, she says happily.

 Alex smiles and hugs Eliza back. I think this is the first time I’ve seen him smile since we’ve met him. Before I know what’s happening Eliza pulls me into the hug as well. We all stay there for a while until our shift ends. “Lizzy, it’s time for us to go home-“, I say.

"Can Alex come too???" She asks, cutting me off. I sigh and nod. "I'm sleeping on the couch then." I mumble and grab my keys. Eliza didn't even argue this time. Why? Cause she's in love with Alex. She hated him yesterday. I guess she's just the kind of person to forgive people for their idiotic mistakes.

 “I have to ask my dad-“, Alex interrupts. Eliza and I both nod before walking with him to Washington’s office. Alex takes a deep breath then knocks on the door. I don’t think he’s stayed anywhere else since Washington took him in. 

"Come in," We hear Washington say before Alex pushes the big glass doors open "What do you three need?" He asks. Alex clears his throat then takes a nervous breath. "Can I stay over at Eliza and John's apartment tonight..?" He hesitantly asks. Washington gives us a weird look.

 “I guess?”, Washington says a bit confused. “Then I’ll go pack a bag”, Alex says. I nod then wait with Eliza for Alex to come back. Once he comes back with his bag I lead them all to my car and Alex gets in the passenger seat while Eliza goes to the back seat.

"You sure you're comfortable back there, Eliza?" I ask. She tries to keep a brave face but I know she's struggling. The bad moments keep flooding back to her mind. "Alex can you sit in the back please-" I say. Alex gives a confused look but nods and switches seats with Eliza.

 I drive us all back to my apartment while playing songs from various musicals. Once we get there I help Alex and Eliza out of the car then let them into the apartment. “So I’ll sleep on the couch”, I say. “No I can-“, Alex interrupts.

"No. We are not having this argument again. Everyone on the bed." Eliza says and pulls us both to the master bedroom. "Ok then…" I mumble and change into my sleeping attire. Alex does the same and Eliza goes into the bathroom to shower and change.

 Once everyone is in their pajamas we all decide on a movie. Eliza and I chose finding Nemo because Alex has never watched it before, but we did skip past the part of Nemo’s mom dying so we didn’t trigger another episode. By the end of the movie Eliza was fast asleep but Alex was still wide awake. I guess he still had energy from his nap earlier.

"Wanna watch something else?" I ask him. He shrugs. "What else is there?" I smile and start going through all my favorite movies that are on Disney+. "What's.. what's Ratatouille-?" He asks me. My jaw drops. "You've never seen Ratatouille???" I whisper yell at him, remembering that Eliza is asleep in between us. He shakes his head and I press play.

 I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone watch Disney movies with so much attention. And to think this was the same guy getting frustrated over Disney adults earlier. I think he just hasn’t watched Disney movies to become one. “I can’t believe they didn’t notice a rat”, Alex whispers. “Well he hides the rat”, I reply quietly.

Once the movie ends, I turn off the TV and put the remote on my nightstand. "Goodnight Alex." I whisper and cuddle up to Eliza. "Wait- what happens after? Do they ever find out about the rats in the new restaurant? Did they get married? I'm confused!" Alex whispers and continues to rant about the movie. I block him out and just try to sleep.

I wake up in the morning to my alarm to see Alex who looks like he hasn’t slept all night and Eliza waking up to my alarm as well. “Did you get any sleep last night-?”, Eliza asks Alex. “Nope”, Alex replies, “I’ve been creating theories.” “Theories about what-?”, I say. “Theories about the movies we watched”, Alex responds. Maybe we shouldn’t have watched movies before bed. 

Eliza gives him a concerned look then sits up and stretches. "Do we have work?" She asks tiredly. I love her but she looks like Anna before 'For The First Time In Forever'. "Yep. But its Friday." I tell her and get out of bed to shower and get ready for the day. 

 Once we’re all ready for work we head out to the car. Alex picked up on Eliza being uncomfortable in the back and sat in the back so Eliza could sit in the passenger seat. When we get to work we greeted Washington. “Glad to see you’re all getting along because you have a new case file.”, he says. We all nod as Alex takes the file and reads it. 

"We're looking for a Jeremiah Schuyler? Apparently he has 3 warrants for his arrest in 3 different states and needs to be brought in." Alex says. I notice Eliza tense up. Oh good lord it's her brother.

 “Well are we ready to go?”, Alex asks. Eliza shakes her head. Alex looks towards me with a confused look. “That’s her brother”, I whisper to him “Oh- dad is there any other cases we can work on?”, Alex asks Washington.

"Uh- yes actually. Liquor store thief on 32nd. Easy." Washington says and hands Alex the file, taking the old one. "Thanks dad." Alex mumbles and looks through it. This is the smallest case file I've ever seen.

 “Welp let’s go then”, Alex says. We all go get our gear before getting in the car and heading to the scene of the crime. This should be an easy case to handle for once without having a chance of death..

We get there and see a drunk man surrounded by probably hundreds of bottles of beer. All of them were empty. "This is probably our guy." Eliza mumbles and leads us towards him. I notice she scrunched her nose at the stench of beer. She's not a drinker and it's pretty obvious.

 We all pitch in and help carry him to the car so we can bring him back to the base. It wasn’t too hard since they guy was blackout drunk. Once we get him into the car we start heading back to the base. I wonder if that was the only case that Washington had planned for today after we rejected the case about Eliza’s brother. 

We walk into Washingtons office and see him with a tall man. I see Eliza freeze and I just have to assume it's her brother. Alex notices too and takes the drunk man from us. "Let's go take a walk." I whisper to Eliza and she nods.

 Eliza nods and her and I walk around the base while Alex and Washington deal with her brother. After a while of walking and talking Eliza starts to calm down and relax a bit. I’m hoping that her brother is gone by the time we finish our walk so she doesn’t have another episode.
