I didn't visit mum the day that nana and I saw dad, and I don't feel guilty about it either. I have to make sure I am in a good mental and emotional place for my babies and myself. They do not need their papa being in an emotionally dark place. I sent mum a brief letter that briefly explained why I cancelled my visit with her. I haven't heard from her yet, and I honestly do not expect to either, but in all fairness, I sent her letter two days ago, which was the day after the visit.
Miles is coming over tonight for dinner with myself, my boys, nana, and Blaze. I invited Miles the day of the botched visits, and he will be here at 5:30 p.m. when he is off shift. Nana and Blaze will be here around 5 p.m., and we are going to make homemade pizzas at the request of the boys.
Andrew, Addison, and I went to the store to buy the needed items, and now we are home where we have placed away everything until later. The boys are currently in their rooms taking a much needed nap while I do some light cleaning of the apartment. By 5:30 p.m. everyone is at the apartment, and we are in the process of making three large pizzas since I have already premade the crusts.
"So Adrian, who is your handsome friend?" nana asks with a smirk, and she damn well knows damn well who Miles is.
"Nana, this is Miles Storm, and he is my co-worker Andrew Storms son," I say before introducing him to my nana and Blaze.
"Papa, wha' tha'?" Andy asks from his kneeling position on the stool next to where I am standing while he gazes at Miles' police badge with interest.
"That is a police badge, Andy," I tell him. "That means Miles protetecs us."
Andy looks at Miles in awe as he asks him; "Weally?"
"Yup, really," Miles answers with a fond smile at Andrew, and I smile fondly at their interaction.
"Pa!" Addy whines while making grabby hands at me from Blaze's hip.
Taking him from Blaze with a smile, I kiss his chubby cheek. Addison tucks his face into my neck while he sucks his left thumb, and stares at Miles with wide eyes. While the pizzas cook we sit in the living room. Miles surprises me when he sits on the floor with Blaze, myself, and the boys while nana sits on the recliner.
"What made you decide to become a police officer?" Blaze asks him while we play with the boys.
"When I was in middle school, I remember one career day where I stopped at the police booth. I was drawn to that line of work instantly as the officer spoke, and he had such passion about his job. I wanted that, and I have it, too," Miles honestly answers with a broad smile.
"That's really awesome," Blaze replies, and I nod in agreement.
"Adrian, dad and papa wanted me to invite you and the boys to dinner at their house," Miles says just as the oven timer beeps, so I stand to turn it off, and take the pizzas from the oven.
Grabbing the oven mitts from the drawer next to the oven, I pull the pizzas out, and place these on the oven mitts on the counter. Gathering my thoughts as I do this, and cut the pizzas into slices. Once done, I call for everyone to come eat while placing a slice onto each of the boys plates before cutting this into small bites. Everyone comes into the kitchen to load slices onto their plates as I place Andy and Addy's into their highchairs, and give them their cooled off food, and sippy cups of milk.
Once I have them settled, I turn to make my plate and drink, when Miles hands me both with a smile causing me to blush, and I murmur; "Thank you, Miles."
Joining the others at the table, I tell Miles we will have dinner with him and his family as long as he tells me when, what time, and the location. The smile on his plump, pink lips is worth the nerves about the pending dinner.
"Okay boys, give nana love, I'm going home to bed," nana says a few hours later with a smile.
Andrew instantly runs over to her to give her a huge hug, and a kiss on the cheek with a mumbled 'bye-bye'. Addison toddles his way over to her to do the same as Andy. I give her a hug and kiss goodbye as does Blaze, and Miles bides her goodnight. Clapping my hands together to get my boys' attention once nana is gone, I tell them that it is bedtime.
"Night, my buddies, and I love you," Blaze says to them as he gives them each a kiss on the cheek.
"I'll be back down in about a half an hour once I've changed them into their jammies, and read them a story," I tell Miles since he doesn't know the night time routine of the boys.
Focusing my attention on my best friend with a serious expresion, I tell him; "Behave yourself, and do not scare him off."
Blaze scoffs with a smirk as he returns; "I always behave myself, and I would never scare him off. I am a little wounded that you think you need to say this to me."
Thirty minutes later, I leave the boys' bedroom, and close the door part of the way behind me, so I can hear them if they need me. Entering the living room, I instantly smile at the sight and sounds that greet me. Blaze and Miles are laughing and talking quietly. I love how well Miles gets along with nana and Blaze, but more importantly, I love how he treats and interacts with Andrew and Addison. This says a lot to me about his personality, and how wonderful he is.
Perhaps giving him, and whatever happens between him and I an honest chance would not be a bad thing.
