Adrian's P.O.V.
"You're not messing with me, right? Please tell me you're not messing joking with me?" I ask with a thick voice.
Andrew nods; "I promise I am not messing with you, Adrian. I promise I am being one hundred percent honest. I take you have had negative reactions to this from other people in your life?"
Chewing on my lower lip while trying to decide on how much I should tell them; "Yes. My parents reacted badly when the doctor informed us of this. I have had others react badly, too, but not as bad as my parents."
"How old were you when you were informed of this?" Miles carefully asks as he scans my face.
"Um, I was 12-years-old when we were told, and um, my dad tried to beat me to death," I softly admit while starring down at the plate in front of me.
"Mum didn't try to stop him either since they thought I was a feak. My nana happened to stop by that day while dad was beating me. She hit him on the back with a baseball bat that was leaning against the wall by the door. Nana called the police on them, and when I was released from the hospital five days later, nana had legal custody of me, and my parents were in jail on mulitple charges," I tearfully admit, still avoiding their gazes.
"That is horrifying, and we are so sorry you went through that, Adrian," Miles says in a horrifed voice with his family nodding along in stunned silence.
"That is why I shut down the other day, I needed out of the situation if either of you had decided to hurt me," I admit in a small voice. "I have a bad habit of putting up my wals with people without letting them explain, so I am sorry for doing that."
We are quiet for a few seconds except for Andrew and Addison who are happily talking while they eat. The rest of dinner we talk of other topics, as I think they understand I don't want to talk more about my parents.
Miles' P.O.V.
Even hours after dinner with Adrian and his boys, I am still shocked and angered by his revelation on his parents. This makes me wonder what ever happened with his parents and their charges.
"Hey papa, what is Adrian's last name?" I try to casually ask before heading home from my parents house for mine.
"Um, it's West I believe," he thoughtfully asks looking over at me curiously. "Why son?"
Shrugging, I nonchalently reply; "I'm just curious as to what happened to his parents and their charges, is all."
Papa and daddy instantly frown at me with daddy saying; "Miles, I don't think that is a good idea. Let it be."
Frowning at them, I reply; "I'm not going to do anything with the information. I just want to satisfy a curiostity I have about him and his family."
My parents don't look convienced, but they don't comment further. I bid them and my brother goodnight. Heading home, I know I'm going right to be after a shower since I have to report for work at 6 a.m., but I'm going to head in a little early, so I can run a check on on Adrian, so I can search for his parents in the database at work.
By 5:30 a.m., I'm at work, and I have run the search on Adrian, and found his parents Amanda and Kyle West. Kyle and Amanda both were charged with child abuse, and child endangerment, along with Kyle being charged with attempted murder, Amanda with accessory to attempted murder. Kyle is serving a twenty year sentence, and Amanda is serving eighteen years.
Sitting in the staff meeting room, my partner and friend, Drake Logan, sits down next to me with a smirk as he asks; "Hey partner, ready for our shift?"
"Yup," I answer as our commanding officer starts the brief meeting before we start our day on patrol.
Leaving the meeting room, we make our way to the parking lot where the patrol cars are located, and climb into ours. Drake and I take turns driving every day, and today is Drake's. He takes off in the direction of our sector as I place us availabe for duty, and we listen to the chatter on the radio as we scan the area.
"Squad 33, a 10-16 in progress at 513 N. Willow Rd," a dispatcher's voice comes through our radio.
Grabbing the radio, I reply; "10-4 dispatch. ETA to scene is two minutes."
Drake speads off with lights and sirens toward the domestic violence call. Information pops onto the screen - a 14-year-old girl, Annabell Welsh is calling on her mum, Ashley Welsh, 31-years-old, for smaking and punching her. Annabell is stating that mum is doing this becuase she has been drinking heavily.
I hate domestic calls espeically when it involves kids being hurt. I won't give you the details of the call, or any other that we recived on shift today, but let me just say that the mum is going to jail charged with child abuse.
By the end of my shift at 3 p.m., I am more than ready to head home since it has been a busy shift. I think one of the dispatchers that we had contact us was Adrian, but I cannot be positive. We had domestic, theft, armed robbery, drunk drivers, drunk and disorderly in public, stabbing, and gunshot calls.
Adrian's P.O.V.
Standing from my chair at work at the end of my shift, I stretch my arms straight over my head, trying to remove the stiffness and kincks from my body. Today's shift has been busy, but it definitly made the day go by faster. Two more shifts, and then I have two full days off to spend with my boys. I am thinking of taking the boys to the waterpark with Blaze on Saturday. I need to do something fun with them, and it will help take my mind off the letters I recieved from my parents. I forgot to check my mailbox yesterday on the way to the apartment, so I checked it this morning after dropping the boys off at nana's, and I found a letter from mum and and one from dad.
I read their letters during my lunch, and in their letters they asked me to visit them soon, so they could apologize to me in person. I have mixed feelings about this - on one hand I want to believe that they truly are sorry, but on the other hand, I'm scared they are doing this for an unknown reason. Guess, I am going to have a talk with nana and Blaze on this matter.
Andrew Storm's P.O.V.
I've noticed since lunch break, Adrian has been sad since he read what looked like two hand written letters.
