Kaden's POV

I woke up with a start, my eyes frantically trying to take in the surroundings. I try to get up from where I was, but fall back with a gasp as pain shoots through my body.

"Fuck!"

"Don't move you're not healed yet." A deep, husky voice warned from across the bed. Bed?

My eyes find the owner of the voice and my breath catches sharply. My heart fluttered as I took in his appearance. He has dark, luscious hair that falls in his eyes which were shining black . Tanned skin that looks like caramel with a slight stubble and a sharp jawline. 

Mate!  Sage whispers in the back of my mind.

Are you sure?  I just couldn't comprehend the fact that this hunk of a man sitting in front of me was my mate.

Sage was quiet. I could feel his confusion and apprehension through our link. You can't blame him. What would you have done if you found out that your mate is a man, when you've always thought it would be a pretty female omega.

"They were silver bullets, so your wounds will take a longer time to heal."  I nodded. I knew that the silver would hurt like a bitch, as it prevented my natural healing. He moved closer to me.  " Lie still. I need to change the wound dressing."

I got a whiff of his scent when he leaned closer. A surprisingly citrusy smell, with a hint of vanilla which was incredibly calming. I had never thought I would find another man's scent so attractive. But, then I scented something else underneath the fresh lemon aroma. A strong musky smell that made me grit my teeth. The scent of the underworld.

I roughly push him away, ignoring the pain as my wounds tore and started bleeding again. He seemed slightly annoyed, but he kept his distance and didn't come near me.

"You're a Realm Shifter?!"  I stupidly ask the obvious.  "What the fuck are you doing here?"

He sighs and rubs his forehead in frustration.

"Yes, I'm a Realm Shifter and no, I can't tell you 'what the fuck I'm doing here'. All you need to know is that I'm not gonna hurt you, so lie still so I can clean the wounds."

He was from another Realm and from the scent of him, its probably one of the worst ones. Realm shifters were beings that travelled from one realm to another. They were extremely rare. One, because it required a great amount of strength and power. Two, because to shift realms, you need to withstand immense pain and suffering. Whatever his motive is, he is desperate. And dangerous.

He reaches for me and I scramble back in the bed. Since he's from the Netherworld, he can't feel the mate bond neither is he gonna care about it. But I can't hurt him since he's my mate and my wolf will suffer if something happens to him. He could kill me and I wouldn't even be able to stop him.  

"Stop!! Let me help you. You'll get infected if you leave it like that."

"I don't trust you. For all I know, you'll probably steal my soul or some shit!!"

He clenches his jaw, eyes flashing dangerously. Shit, I've made him mad. I can't take him on all by myself if he decided to attack me.

He lurches and I try to fight back. He grabs my hands and pins it on either sides of my body. I look at him with my eyes wide, panicking.

"I said I'm not gonna hurt you. You're my assigned mate in this Realm, I can't do anything to you even if I want to."  He says while looking into my eyes. His voice was rough and angry.

 I start trembling. Tears starts to well in my eyes and I clench my hands into fists. Dark figures start to swirl around me, screaming menacing words. My breath started to become shallower.

Kaden!! Don't lose yourself. Snap out of it.  Sage howls.

"Hey, it's alright. I'm here, don't panic. Look at me. Just focus on me."  My mate cradles my body in his arms, whispering soothingly.

Kaden!

I gasp for air, my vision starting to become cloudy. My body starts jerking violently, slowly losing consciousness.

Kaden.

"I'm sorry." He whispers. I inhale his soothing scent as he rocks me to sleep.
