Pain, pain, and more pain.
That was all I could feel. I couldn't move or do anything, but over the years, pain has become my constant companion.

It's a peculiar thing, pain. We spend our lives searching for comfort, avoiding discomfort at all costs. Yet, in the midst of agony, I found an unexpected sense of liberation.

With each passing day, pain became my companion, an unexpected teacher guiding me through the shadowed corridors of my soul. It was no longer an enemy but a sign of change. Its presence carved resilience into my spirit, shaping me in ways I never imagined.

And so, I decided to welcome it. In those moments of vulnerability, I discovered my inner strength.

Difficult times came into my life, bringing out fears and hidden bravery. With each struggle, I learnt to handle it, navigating through rough times and enjoying the challenge as well.

Welcoming pain became my anthem. It wasn't about glorifying suffering but finding meaning amidst the chaos, a purpose within the trials. I think this pain is the price I have to pay for all the bad deeds I committed in the past.

I kept hearing people coming and going from my room, but I couldn't do anything. I couldn't see anything. I didn't know for how long I've been lying here but it felt like forever.

Then suddenly, a different kind of pain. Voices. Sounds. Confusion.

"Mama maybe?" The voice was faint, but familiar. "Bunmi, is that you?"

I strained against the fog in my mind, trying to make sense of the words filtering through.

"Oh my baby," Bunmi's voice broke through the haze, trembling. "Please wake up. It breaks my heart seeing you like this. I told them I needed to see you as soon as they informed me about what happened. Apparently, you are going to be a dad, Dee."

"Dad?," The word echoed in my mind, stirring emotions I couldn't quite grasp. Bunmi's hands squeezed mine, her touch grounding me in reality.

"You cannot leave us. You have to wake up, you hear me? Please, Dee. Whatever this is, we will get through it, together. We always do, my love. So please wake up."

Her words cut through the fog like a lifeline. I struggled to move, to reassure her that I was here, that I heard every word. But my body wouldn't respond.

And then, a surge. Light pierced the darkness, blinding me momentarily as I surfaced to consciousness.

"Nurse, Doctor, I think he's awake!" Bunmi's voice rang out, urgent and relieved.

In moments, the room filled with commotion. Policemen, doctors, and nurses converged, their voices blending into a chaotic chorus.

"Please, we need everybody to step out," a firm voice interrupted, belonging to a female doctor. Her authority cut through the chaos.

"We cannot leave you all alone with a criminal," a policeman retorted, his voice tense with suspicion.

"He is not a criminal," Bunmi's protest was fierce, protective.

Before the tension escalated, the doctor intervened again. "As much as I respect your roles, we are tending to a patient. These minutes are crucial. Please allow us to finish treatment. Afterward, you can proceed with your inquiries. But for now, everyone must leave."

Her words carried weight, calming the room slightly as understanding settled in.

I tried to distract myself as the doctors and nurses prodded and circled around me, checking and examining. I could see my mother, Bunmi and Fauza behind the glass window, peering through.
