"What? Really?" I sat up in shock.
"Yeah, well, we had a sister called Jane. I'm guessing she died or something?" Asked Molly.
"I don't know, where I was before my old place, there was a big explosion. We never found any survivors..." I said looking down as it reminded me of the incident.
"When it started, Jane was at home with Jaime babysitting. I was at work. Jane never really went to work, always used to slack off. Jaime said they traveled through a lot of states. Until Jaime was so exhausted and depressed, she didn't want to mover and then Jane just left her on the top of a roof. And that's when I found her with my group."
"Sh-She never mentioned you..."
"Of course she wouldn't. Me and her used to fight a lot. I really hated her, she hated me. Even mom and dad weren't very fond of her. She was always better off dead."
Jaime gasped and shook her head.
"Look it's the truth. And the only reason why she probably cared about you so much, is probably because she felt guilty about Jaime." Molly said turning to me.
I stood up instantly.
"No you listen here! Jane did care about me and she cared about Jaime. What happened, it destroyed her and she never stop talking about Jaime. When I met her, she was cold hearted and she acted like she didn't give a damn about anyone. But she looked after me, she protected me. She is-was my family. And I don't give a crap about what you have to say about her because I knew the real Jane!"
Everyone stood there staring at me.
"Fair enough. Maybe she did change. I still don't care though." Molly shrugged.
I sighed and sat back down. Carl place his arm around me and held me tightly.
"I'm sorry..." I said in a low voice.
"It's cool. Everyone's entitled to an opinion." Molly said.
"Okay. Ha ha. Looks like the food's ready." Said Michael awkwardly as he handed old cans full of beans around.
Everyone was silent while eating. Judith went over to Jade and offered her some food but she declined.
"She doesn't want any but she said thanks." Judith said resuming her meal and sitting next to me.
I completely devoured my ration of beans. I had ate for at least a day. When I finished my food, I felt completely replenished. Everyone else around me had finished their food too and began to settle down for sleep. The sewer smell wasn't very pleasing to the nose but of course we had no choice.
After an hour had passed, everyone was fast asleep. I looked over at Carl. He was in a corner lying on a thin blanket, leaning on his elbows and looking up to the ceiling. He caught me looking at him and smiled.
"Hey." He whispered.
"Hey." I whispered back and smiled.
He signalled me to come over so I did. He sat up and I sat next to him.
"Tough day huh?" He said.
"Yeah... I just feel bad for Jade. Maybe I could of done something to save Anna." I said looking over at Jade who was curled up with Judith her arms.
"You didn't know, neither did anyone else. And if we did go back up there, who know what could of happened to us." Carl said pulling me in close and hugging me tightly.
"Anyway, changing the subject. I've been feeling really..." He whispered the rest in my ear.
"Ew gross!" I said punching him making him laugh.
