I woke up in the firm hold of James who was still sleeping. I heard a big clash through the open window. There were two large men shouting at each other and a large white van with the colourful lettering that read 'Tents for a Treat' drove to the Surfing Shack.
Three men came out and hauled large bags and piled them on the beach. I stood on my balcony and leaned over the rail watching the excitement take place. Girls were running around frantically hanging up colourful flags and lights from pole to pole. A large stage had been set up near the Surfers Shack. A long table was set on it with 4 chairs behind it and scoring signs were laid out. I heard the bed sheets behind me ruffle but I thought James was just turning and I let him sleep. He needed the energy if he wanted to win. He has won one of the championships before. This region of Miami have only had 4 championships so far and James has been in the final three times including the one he won. I felt an arm wrap around my waist and a kiss planted on my neck.
"Morning," James said in his sexy morning voice.
"Good morning. Have a shower and get ready for today." I instructed.
"Love you too." James kissed my shoulder and left to the bathroom, obeying my orders.
I took one last look at the scene on the beach before I walked back inside.
I pulled out my bikini drawer and put on a bright pink bikini and threw my white, open weave poncho over. I decided I'd go barefoot and I walked to my makeup table. I applied a peach pink lipstick and added some gloss before I did my eye makeup. I used my nude pink eyeshadow and attempted to do my eyebrows but gave up when I looked like big foot. I added my mascara and took one last look in the mirror to make sure I hadn't any mistakes. I left my hair down but didn't brush it as I liked the messy look. The beach was full of people. I pushed through the crowd and eventually fell out to the surf stand. James turned around and laughed once he saw me stumble. I grabbed onto a post and managed to keep my body balanced. James came and wrapped his fingers through mine and brought me too meet his competitors. There were three guys in their swimsuits , showing off their six packs. James introduced me to a man called Johnny. He greeted me politely and shook my hand. He wore green swimming trunks with white leafy patterns on them. The second man was called Chace who greeted me with a dazzling smile. He wore a deep wine coloured trunks and had a beautiful six pack. The third guy was called Seth, he greeted me by a polite hello in a British accent. He wore deep blue trunks and had a sturdy jawbone.
James took me to the surf boards quickly before I could check out his competitors any longer.
"You know you are only here for me right?" James's eyes stared into mind and I couldn't sense if he was being sarcastic or genuinely jealous.
"Yes. I'm just taking an interest in your friends. It's polite isn't it?" I held my head up high, proud to not be the one jealous this time in our relationship.
"Ugh.." James groaned at my ignorance I assumed. "Fine yes it's polite." He paused to let me have my moment of achievement and letting me punch my fist up in the air. "Now I have to go get ready. It starts in like five minutes. I will be looking at you and who are you meant to cheer for?"
"Amm... Let me try and remember... Oh yes it's Tommy, Chace and Seth." I giggled.
"Omg ok fine you had your moment of glory. Can you stop now?" James winged like a little boy who wanted his big brother to stop playing with his toy tractor.
"Love you too. Good luck!" I kissed James before I drowned into the crowd."Ladies and gentleman," a deep voice boomed from the stage over the microphone. "I wish you all a happy Independence Day!"Everyone cheered and raised their hands clapping. The man on the stage smiled until he waved his hands down indicating the crowd to hush down. "We welcome you to our 5th annual surfing event final!" The man informed. Again the crowd went wild. My eyes scanned around the stage for James but couldn't spot him. Maybe he was waxing his board or something I wondered.
"Today our finalists are James Moretz, Seth Christianos, Johnny Ronson and Chace Samual." As the man called their names each of the boys came up on the stage and shook hands with him. I cheered as loud as I could when I saw James but I don't think he even heard me at the noise the girls made when he came up bearing his six pack.
"Now you all probably don't want to be listening to me," the speaker began, "so let's begin!" The crowd broke out in an uproar of cheers and pumped their fists in the air. The surfers walked down the stage and towards their surf boards where young volunteers had waxed them and had them ready. James shook hands with the young female volunteer who seemed to have melted the moment he touched her. He took the board from her and ran to the starter line where Seth and Chace were already standing. Johnny came shortly after James and the four men stood with their boards under their arms waiting for the judge to countdown to zero. 5.... 4.... 3....2.....1.....0..... A loud buzzer went and the four men sprinted to the sea with their feet kicking a sand storm behind them. Chace was the first to reach the sea where he quickly jumped on his board, he was followed then by James, Seth and Johnny. With Chace in front, James a meter after him and Seth and Johnny two meters behind James they all lay on their stomachs on their boards and used their arms to paddle. They moved swiftly over a rising wave. A large, dark wave began rising and with that the men stood on their boards, left leg in front, knees bent and let the wave crash. The wave broke near a cliff and continued to break over Johnny who fell off his board, the wave curved over Seth but there was no sight of him on top of the wave. He came out of the wave still standing on his board but soon fell once the wave had caught up on him. James and Chace were doing their best to keep ahead but after the wave had taken Seth down it quickly caught up with James and Chace. Both men were swallowed into the opening of the curve but the wave hadn't yet crashed on them. Chace suddenly appeared, riding his board ever so smoothly leaving a white foamy trail behind him and pumped his fists in the air, making the crowd break out into a loud cheer. I kept my eyes on the wave hoping James will come out. My heart relaxed when he came out of the wave and followed Chace to the shore where Seth and Johnny we're already standing cheering for their opponents. I ran to James and swung my arms around him nearly knocking him over. His lips searched for mine and every bone in my body got a quick rush when I felt him kiss me. He put his hand around my waist and signalled to the stage. Four judges sat, writing something on prices of paper. The first judge lifted a round score board with the number 4 written on it. The speaker read out the numbers for Johnny, 4,5,3,4, and gave him his total which was 16. He then read out Seth's score which came to the total of 18 and the crowd all cheered and grinned. The speaker cleared his throat before he spoke out James's score. 6,7,6,8. 27 in total was his score. Chace was in the lead with 30 and after the crowd were done cheering and the surfers had had a break they went back to the starting line. There were 3 rounds in total, all of which were riding the waves. The second round was almost the same as the first round, Johnny off first, Seth next but this time it was Chace who fell off third. James won and received a sub total score of 33 which put him in the lead with a total of 60 points followed by Chace, Seth , and Johnny. Chace had the total of 57, Seth had 39, Johnny was last with the score of 37.
Just like the last round the men walked to the starting point and once the buzzer had rung they ran to the sea and jumped on their boards. They all paddled to a large upcoming wave and were swallowed up by it. Chace came out of the opening of the wave, followed by James. I tried to cheer as loud as I could but my voice was drowned by the crowd. James was curving up and down the wave and passed by Chace. I spotted a head and a board coming up out of the water. My eyes squinted and scrutinised the identity of the man. Johnny. Seth impressed me as he came out of the opening of the wave . He was at the tail of Chace but Chace was speeding ahead trying to catch up with James. James did win this round followed by a draw of Seth and Chace.
James was given his total points, 81, and was called out onto the podium. The main judge greeted him with a handshake and a medal. James bent down his head as the judge swung the medal around his neck. James stood on the podium looking like a boy who had just succeeded in convincing his mum to give him another jelly. The crowd cheered and loud music boomed from large black speakers that stood next to a tent with a DJ set up in it.
I ran to James as he came down the stage with his medal and trophy. I swung my arms around him and planted my lips on his. His arms snaked around my waist with his trophy in one hand, the cold metal pressing against my skin.
