Warmth of Ice

Chapter 6: First Mission

Y/N and Asta were eating some of some of the food at the Black Bulls dining hall. Asta then asked, "So I've been meaning to ask, what do the Magic Knights  do anyway?" Magna glared at him. He grabbed and shook him, "What?! You joined the Magic Knights, but you don't even know that much?!" Noelle turned to Y/N, "How much of an idiot is he?" Y/N frowned, "Sorry, he was never really bright." He looked pass Noelle to see that the other Black Bulls were explaining that the Magic Knights did. He smiled and went to put away his plate. 

Later that day, Magna called the three new members. "And so I'm gonna give you guys...your first mission! You're going to the village of Saussy to hunt boar." The three of them were understandably confused at their mission. Noelle said, "Wha...what a stupid mission!" "What's stupid about it, huh?!!" Asta said, "I can take out a dumb boar with my bare hands." "Don't you go underestimating boars!" Y/N said, "He might actually be able to do it. I've seen him actually fight the small boars in our village." "Well, good for him." Yami began explaining, "The two of us lost a bet the other day. We promised this one old guy we'd do a favor for him, whatever he asked. He was looking to get rich quick so he could make his poor village wealthy...that geezer that was quite a guy. Humans are strong when they've got responsibilities." Asta yelled, "'Scuse me! But that means it's not our problem, doesn't it!!" Noelle agreed. Y/N sighed. He knew that there was no arguing with the captain. His idea was confirmed when Yami threatened them into accepting the mission.

A few hours later, the four of them were getting ready to go to the village where they were supposed to get rid of the boars. Magna had to take both Asta and Noelle on his broom, Crazy Cyclone. It seemed that the senior Magic Knight was having trouble giving the mana to the broom for it to fly with the three of them on board. Y/N followed on his own broom. Noelle asked, "Hey, why isn't Asta on your broom?" Y/N replied, "Oh, I'm not very skilled with flying my broom. I've only ever flown a few times before. It'd be too dangerous to fly with someone else." Noelle huffed, "Uh, fine. I suppose I'll just have to deal with him for now." 

A few hours later, they managed to reach the village. However, they were surprised to find that the village was surrounded by a fog. Magna asked, "What the heck's this...? The village...it's covered in mist...?" Y/N felt that the mist was actually made from magic. Asta couldn't sense it, "This place sure has lousy weather!" Noelle said, "Don't be stupid! It's magic. Even if we go in there, I doubt we'll be able to reach our destination." Y/N felt uneasy. It was clear that the mist had been created by someone from outside the village. There was no way that a person from the Forsaken realm had the magic to cast a spell of this magnitude. Magna told Asta to cut the mist with his sword and had to explain that it was to negate the spell. Asta took out his anti-magic sword and cut through the mist. They reached the village center just in time to see that the villagers were all gathered together just as ice shards were about to fall on them. Magna and Asta rushed to save them. Magna destroyed the ice with "Flame Magic: Explosive Scattershot." One of the young boys cried over an old man's dead body. Magna recognized him as the man who gave them the mission of hunting the boars. He turned to ask a man sitting, "Was this you?!" The man looked at a pocket watch, "How dare you throw off the schedule? In three seconds...everyone dies." He cast a large ice spell, but Asta cut it in half, "You're going down!!"
