Today is the day of my birthday party. I look outside my window but sadly there is no sign of a new car. I get dressed in my sundress I laid out the night before.
I ran downstairs to help set up and Mary came over early like she always does. "Where do you want these lanterns?" Mary asked. ""We can string them in between the two trees." Just as Mary and I finished the last minute decorations, guests started to come inside and make there way to the backyard where the party was being held. I was greeted by all of my friends from school, and by all of there gifts. I was involved in several conversations but I couldn't help but to be distracted by Mason and wonderingly where he was? I didn't see him. That's when I stepped off to the side to call him, but he didn't answer. Where was he?
At that moment I was worried, but then I heard the doorbell ring. I snuck to the front of the house to open the door and it was Mason. "Sorry I'm late."
"It's fine, I'm just glad that you came." We hugged each other and I walked him out to the backyard. But before we good engage in our series of conversations, my parents gave me a puzzling look. That's when I went over to them and they asked me several questions. "Who is that boy?" My dad asked.
"Is there something that you would like to explain to us April?"
"Look, that boy is Mason and he's my boyfriend. Secondly I've been dating him for about two weeks now. I'm sorry I haven't told you, but I'm seventeen years old. And you can't on to me forever."
They exchanged looks, and were silent for a few seconds. Then my dad said "I'm okay with you dating him April, but as long as I get to have a talk with him, it's okay with me." My mother nodded in agreement. I smiled and hugged both of them and joined the rest of my friends for the party.
