Author's Note

This is probably the cringiest story I've ever written, and honestly, I wasn't a fan of it myself. However, I made a few changes to try and make it at least presentable. I hope you have a happy reading experience. Please note that English is not my first language, so I may have made tons of mistakes. Please forgive me for that.

Flashback: 7 Years Ago

"Okay, attention please!" Mrs. Kim's voice cut through the hum of conversations. Everyone who had been busy with their own activities turned to look at her.

Mrs. Kim continued, "Today is Kookie's birthday, so we should have a surprise party!"

"Yes, that's a good idea, Mom," Jin replied, his eyes lighting up at the thought.

As everyone agreed, it was clear that Kookie, the youngest and everyone's favorite, was in for a special celebration.

Four Hours Before the Party

Excitement buzzed through the house as Kookie's family busily prepared for his surprise birthday party. The living room was festooned with colorful balloons, and the enticing aroma of freshly baked cake filled the air. However, amid the flurry of preparations, one crucial detail had been overlooked—Mrs. Kim had forgotten to buy a gift for her beloved son.

"Oh, I forgot to get a gift for Kookie!" Mrs. Kim exclaimed to her husband, her face filled with concern.

"It's okay, just get him one next time," Mr. Kim suggested.

"No, my Kookie will be sad. I need to go out now and get him something," Mrs. Kim insisted.

"Alright, but come back quickly," Mr. Kim agreed.

Mrs. Kim grabbed her car keys and hurried out the door.

**Two Hours Before the Party**

*Mr. Kim's POV*

It had been two hours, and Mrs. Kim still hadn't returned. Anxiety gnawed at me. What if something had happened? I hesitated, then my phone rang.

"Boss, someone left a dead body near our base. It looks like Mrs. Kim," the voice on the other end of the line reported.

"Are you sure?" I asked, my heart pounding.

"Yes, boss," came the grim confirmation.

"Wait for me," I instructed, ending the call with a sense of dread.

I looked back at my sons, who were watching me with growing concern. I took a deep breath, trying to hold back my tears.

"Jin," I called my eldest son.

"Yes, Dad?" Jin responded, sensing the gravity of the situation.

"Take care of Kookie and everyone. I have to go. Something happened to your mom," I said, my voice trembling but resolute.

"Okay, Dad," Jin replied, already understanding the severity of the situation.

As I left, my mind raced with fear and urgency, hoping against hope that I would find Mrs. Kim alive and safe.
