Groot and Rocket are humans :p

...

That blast was heavy. Jeez he hoped nothing happened while was knocked out. When he awoke he saw vines around them all. Rocket looked at Groot. His pal...his love, his world.

"No, no Groot!" Rocket climbed on him slightly. The lint on his face started to move down while tears started to stream. "You can't...you'll die!"

Groot just smiled. His smile was of sadness. Rocket hated it. Rocket shook his head slowly. "Why are you doing this?!" Rocket demanded. Groot moved a hand to cup the half raccoon's face.

His smile still remaining. It hurt...so goddamn much. "We are Groot." He said. Rocket hugged his best friend, knowing this was the end.

The blast from Ronan's ship hit and they started going down. He couldn't see much. It was smokey. "Goddamn smoke...GROOT!" Rocket tried to find his best friend in the smoke. The ship crashed landed onto a building, Groot being killed in the process.

Twigs and blood spilled. Rocket then found Groot's corpse, lifeless, surrounded by the sticks he made from himself. "Groot!" Rocket ran over and hugged him. "Groot! Groot! Hey, hey! Open your eyes!" He shook him violently, screaming, "Groot! Please, don't leave me! I need you! Christ, GROOT!!!" Rocket couldn't wake him up.

He cried, he had just lost the most important person in his life. "Groot...Groot please...don't go. Not yet. It wasn't supposed to be like this..." Rocket looked at Ronan with an angry glare.

"You..."

"Killed..."

"GROOT!" In attempt to attack Ronan he instantly stopped. That hurt. But his heart hurt more.

'Groot, you promised to be there. No matter what. You promised me!'

When they were able to kill Ronan with the help of each other. Rocket couldn't take it. He couldn't take in the pain no longer. He broke down, hugging a remaining twig from the person he cared for the most.

Drax sat next to him, and for that moment, he felt relaxed. He never let anyone touch him except Groot. The head pat was something unexpected but he let it happen.

He cried some more

He felt alone

But at least he had his coworkers...

No, not coworkers.

Family

Something he always had yearned for.
