CHAPTER 9
-BECCA-
Becca opened the door to her apartment floor and found all of her siblings looking at her - they had been preparing dinner. She looked at the digital clock to her left, 5:29 PM. She was late for preparing dinner, hopefully, her mom wasn't mad at her.

She quietly put away her shoes and tried, tried, to creep past her mom who was in the kitchen - cooking peppers - but she was stopped when her mom said,
"Becca, come here."
"Yes?" She u-turned and went to her mom. Her elder sister - who would be leaving for college in 5 more months - looked on. She threw Jess a glare but she didn't turn away.
"Yes, mom?" She repeated.
"Why are you so late? It's already 5:30."
"It just took a little bit longer because my boss held me back, to talk to me after our work." She redid her ponytail. Please let me go, already. Please don't find out.
"Uh, huh. And it took you..."
"15 minutes to talk to him - yes."
"About what?"
"About a surgery that I successfully completed. We reviewed my steps." That was half a lie. She did talk about the successful surgery with Dr. Hirose but it only took about 8 minutes.
"Uh, huh." Her mom surveyed her daughter again. She swore, mom is like a hound dog.
" Well, hurry up and change, wash your hands - you know the drill and then come and help."
With an "Okay", she quickly goes to her room.
And out of the corner of her eyes, she sees Jess giving her narrowed eyes and shouting after her,
"You're doing the dishes because you came home late."
She didn't reply. She did not really care if she had - it was worth being late for her, anyways.
