I had this dream. It's the night of the ball. I am wearing an army green gown and it's been an hour that my partner isn't showing up. I should have seen it coming. I have never taken this thing seriously because the last time we talk about being each other's partner at the ball was the first time he agreed to it.
He had obviously stood me up but let's not think I'm feeling heartbroken about it. I should have seen it coming.
I woke up feeling lightheaded. That was a very long but short dream. I remember having this immature hair pulling clash with Selena and the next thing I know, I'm in the university's clinic. I was expecting my opponent on the next bed but it's empty. It is so unfair, maybe it's because I am not used to fighting unlike her.
In the end, I missed the exam. I am doomed for the rest of my life and I might not attend the graduation ball because I won't be able to graduate after all.
It's just an hour since I passed out but it only turned me into a paranoid human being. I'm sure I still can take a make-up class only if Mrs. won't find out the reason why I'm here in the first place.
The clinic nurse advise I stay for another hour because it is protocol and after that hour passed, he cleared me out.
"Fix your hair a bit. It's a mess."
Humanity doesn't exist. Basically, no one ever thought of fixing my hair before running me down here. Icarus and Stephen will be both dead meat when I see them.
Nurse Therese stops me just as I'm about to open the door, "Those three guys who brought you, tell them to pay me a visit. I forgot to get their names."
I don't want to jump into conclusions like I did a while ago but I'm pretty sure the three person she's talking about is Icarus, Stephen and certainly not Selena but Baby Cakes. God, he's is giving me this weird feeling.
The moment I went home, everyone's dressed up and seemed to be waiting for me and Kaizer. My other brothers are all set to go out while I still wore someone else's shirt.
"Where are you guys going?" I ask taking my shoes off.
Carlson puts his arm over my shoulders, "The question is, where are we going?" Weird faces continue to stare at me except Kaizer who's also curious of what is happening.
"We have all the night to stroll around the malls. You should've notified us earlier."
Notify about?
"Her favorite color is black, right? Or is it navy blue?" It's like I am not around but clearly, they are talking about me. The most possible person they can address with a her apart from me is Ridge's wife, Amaia.
"No! Her closet's like filled with army green color." They continue to argue about the color I don't know they're pertaining to.
"Excuse me, what is going on?" I finally stop them.
Ridge only notices me when he asked me to do a more confusing demand, "Missus, please change your clothes. We'll be leaving in five." He glances on the wall clock before hitting the unlock button for his car.
While dressing up, I still can't find an answer to why are they in a rush and can't seem to tell me the reason. Well, this isn't a surprise because they suck at it. They just don't want to be telling me what this commotion is about.
The whole ride's noisy so I didn't bother asking where are we going and why are they taking me with them. When we arrived at the mall, Carlson and Asher are locking me by their arms so they are just besically dragging me anywhere.
I kind of finally found out when we arrived at a boutique full of formal gowns, shoes and bags. Everything is sparkling. Everything is blinding. Everything is pricey, for sure.
"This is rushed, baby girl." Asher starts running his fingers through the displayed items. He calls me baby girl like occasionally when he wants me to do something for him.
I decided to sit beside Kaizer who's just playing some arcade game on his phone because I am really not interested in choosing anything. For a start, I don't even want to wear something this sophisticated and glamorous... and girly.
"Get up, Treanne." Ridge pushes me up then to the aisle. "You'll choose because we are not going home until you do."
Carlson hisses, stares at me from head to toe like one expert. There's stain of disappointment in his face, "You really never plan on telling us anything about the ball?"
I decided to play the staring game.
I didn't want to tell them because it's no big deal. I didn't want to tell them because they will tease me. I didn't want to tell them because they will pour a lot of their time doing things like shopping and preparing for my make-ups. They get so supportive and it's lovely and sweet but cringey.
I accept defeat, "It's not that big of a deal. Just a night of unnecessary lights and forced interactions." I pick a pair sneakers lone in the isle of high heeled shoes. "This one."
They all shake their heads including Kaizer who seems to be not paying attention but surprisingly is.
They take turns asking me to try different gowns and me, forcibly obeying. I felt like my skin is so allergic with different fabric texture that I get so itchy every time I wear and undress with one. The sales ladies from the store either find it cute or embarrassing that there are four gentlemen holding up their phones taking picture of every gown that I've worn. I am getting a secondhand embarrassment thanks to my brothers.
It's almost 8PM when I finished trying out a total of 11 gowns to which they ended up choosing what will I wear. Ridge, Carlson and Asher are going to pay for them so I let them worry about it more.
Our stroll wouldn't be complete if we are not going to dine for dinner but is it just me or someone who looks exactly like Galvin is approaching our table?
I look back to my brothers then back at the tall person then back to my naughty brothers again.
"What the fuck is he doing here?" I panic as I question my brothers' motive into inviting Galvin for dinner just as we finish worrying about what to wear.
They all decided to ignore me by greeting my classmate/date but not friend with a smile. He sits on the chair next to me and smiles like this is a such a normal situation to be in.
"Waiter!" Asher calls to order and while he and the waitress talks about our desired menus, Galvin whispers to me.
"Sorry, couldn't say no."
I frown of embarrassment that he had to apologize even before I do, "Sorry but I think they are really so intrigued about you. Anyway, thanks for earlier." I was talking about them, bringing me to the clinic but at the back of my mind, I am not sure if he's really the one with Stephen and Icarus.
"Nice fight by the way. Only if you could've won."
His face when he answered "yeah" to Selena's question gave me a win already. There's this thought that winning him as a date is a prize.
There's a short silence then I realized it's my brothers carefully looking at us, analyzing our compatibility.
"So, whose idea is this?" I try to be as authoritative as I am the only feminine in the table. All my brothers pointed towards Asher while this clueless human being beside me, not Kaizer is pointing at me.
"Let's talk about this after eating, okay?" Dodging the tension, the eldest starts taking plates and putting food on mine. He smiles like he hasn't done anything weird.
After supper, we didn't talk about the awkward situation they are putting me in. More like they talk about themselves and even plan on playing a basketball match this weekend.
I can't believe we're here to the point that we will see each other in a non-academic purpose.
