So as you know my History term 1 board exam happened. And it was amazing !
But you know what wasn't amazing ? Studying that excuse of a textbook !
So many false facts about are culture have been printed and like crores of student are studying it ! It will take an entire day to list out all the false claims but here are some that bugged me very much.
1) WOMEN WEREN'T ALLOWED TO STUDY VEDAS.
This thing is mentioned so many times in the textbook that's it's actually frustrating, keep in mind this is in the context of 600 BCE to 600 CE.
I'm like - WHERE IN THE HECK IS IT WRITTEN THAT WOMEN WEREN'T ALLOWED TO STUDY VEDAS !!?
Don't you know that a good proportion of Vedas were written by women themselves ! Gargi, Apalla, Maitri, Lopamudra, Madaalsa ? Ever heard of these names ?
We come from a culture who worships Mata Saraswati, A WOMAN, as the source of knowledge and education !
Then why in the heck would they be not allowed to study Vedas !? Or you thought that women can write Vedas but cannot study it ?! Idiots !
2) ONLY MEN KNEW VEDIC SANSKRIT.
I mean what ?????
If a good proportion of Vedas were written by women then how come only men knew Vedic Sanskrit ? Or maybe you thought women wrote Vedas in English ?
Not only false but stupid things they have printed.......
3) BRAHMANAS REGARDED SHUDRAS AS UNTOUCHABLES.
Ok, you were referring to Dharmasutra and Dharmashastra, tell me where in these books is it written that a certain caste is untouchable ?
I can guarantee before British, no where it is written that Shudras were untouchables, and this is 600 BCE to 600 CE we're talking about.
4) SHAIKH MOINUDDIN CHISTI WAS THE GREATEST SUFI SAINT.
Don't get me started here.... Entire 2-3 pages are dedicated to the 'greatness' of this Shaikh in ch-6 Bhakti and Sufi traditions.
I'm like - You do know who you're glorifying at this point ? Or did you think he is a Sufi thus for the sake of secularism we put him here ?
DUDE ! THIS MAN HAD INVITED GHORI TO INVADE INDIA !
THIS MAN PROUDLY TOOK THE ENTIRE CREDIT FOR THE DEFEAT OF PRITHVI RAJ CHAUHAN !
THIS MAN THREW THE RAJPUT WOMEN TO MUSLIM SOLDIERS WHO RAPED THEM !
This man by no means was a saint.
I am seriously concerned about the future generations who will read such books and take it seriously. We really need to rewrite our history textbooks at this point.
