"you're just protecting your kids!" a man yelled referring to us six standing at the doorway.

"i'm protecting our people. i'd do the same for any one of you," vander stated. "we look out for each other it's the way it's always been. this will blow over. we just need to stand together."

"the vander i knew, the one who built the underground, wouldn't be afraid to fight." sevika says. i cross my arms over my chest and look down as i kick the air lightly.

vander walk over to her. "do i look afraid?"

"no." she says leaning in. "you look weak." she whistles and turns away walking out the door her "gang" following her.

"why isn't he doing anything?" mylo complains.

"we kicked the enforcers' butts with just the four of us." powder complains. "imagine what the whole lanes could do." 

"jeez, even powder wants to fight." mylo says walking down the stairs.

"so, why aren't we?" vi says grabbing my wrist and pulling me down the stairs with her. she lets me go and back up looking at ekko. "spill it ekko." i say to him rolling my eyes.

"um. oh, okay. well, um, vander's got a deal with the enforcers." ekko says cringing at the idea.

"what deal?" vi asks him. i stand behind her and hold her arm waiting for his answer.

...

i sit on the couch along with mylo and we hear the monkey toy go off. it falls on the ground and i stand up along with everyone else.

the enforcer open the door and walks down the stairs. i stand on the pipe next to vi. powder starts to slip and my eyes widen. the enforcer takes his time walking up the stairs before finally leaving. powder lets go and falls, letting out a quiet ow. i sigh and drop down turning on the light. 

vander opens the door. "you all okay?"

"no, we're no okay. they almost saw powder. what if they took her?" vi says.

"no one is taking any of you. never let that happen."

"it's already happening!" vi exclaims. "you heard him, they won't stop. we need to fight back." she walks towards him a little slamming her fist on the wall. "and if you won't i will."

"i've heard this kind of talk before."

vi open the door and walks down the stairs. i sit on the sofa, man spread with my head in my hands.

"vi, where you been?"

"rumor is the lanes are gonna fight." claggor says. vi doesn't say anything i can feel her gaze on me. i hear her walk over to powder and talking but, i'm not focusing. then the thoughts start to come.

what if someone important to me dies?

what if i die?

where's my mom?

what if powder gets hurt?

what if vander dies.

i stand up and walk up the stairs and open the door closing it behind me. i walk into my room locking it. i slide down my door and onto the ground. i miss my mom more then ever now. i think it's because i know people might die tonight. i stand up and walk over to my desk. i open the drawer and grab thee picture frame of me and my mom the my dad took of us making cookies. in the same kitchen my dad hurt me in. i observed her smiling, her dirty blonde hair like mine, eyes like mine, freckles like me. everything like me. suddenly i start to cry. i set the picture down and fall onto the ground. she was my best friend. but she just left without even saying anything. i cover my mouth so nobody heard me sobbing. i started taking deep breaths so i would stop. 

i finally stopped. i wiped my tears and stood up shakily. i walked over to my door and unlocked it. i heard screaming. the memory's of the bridge came back. i winced and walked outside the back door. i saw a man with purple veins. i gasped as the man attacked a enforcer killing her. i saw ekko standing in the shadows. i crept over to him and held him in my arms. he stared to weep a little to loudly.

"sh sh sh. it's gonna be okay." i said turning us so i was facing the whole scene and he couldn't see. that's when i realized who else was over there. benzo, an enforcer, and vander. i gasped and looked away as benzo ran towards another man. he died. i heard vander scream. it happened so quickly then. he was gone. i grabbed ekkos hand and we went into benzo's. we heard vi yelling. and i unlocked the door then walked down the stairs. she wiped her tears and stood up looking at us. she quickly walk over to us and hugged us.

"we saw everything." ekko spoke sobbing. "b-benzo. they."

"what about vander."

"they took him."
