"hm, you look good for a dead girl." ekko states looking at vi. he then turns to me. "you don't look to crazy either."
"i-i'm not even crazy." i say shrugging my shoulders.
"ekko?" vi questions and ekko looks back to her.
"what do ya' know about this?" ekko interrogates, showing us the glowing blue ball.
"nothing. what the hell is this all about?" vi asks.
"what were you doing with jinx." ekko says looking at me quickly and then back at vi. my eyebrows furrow and i start to try to shuffle out of the rope i was tied in. i shuffled out but continued to act like i was still restrained.
"her name is powder." vi argued standing up quickly, "and i had just found her when you and your goons showed up." vi took a breath, "its me. vi. same person who used to take you down to the junk heap, and hose you down when you got covered in grease."
"that was a long time ago people change."
"yeah. im getting that." vi says.
"are you working for silco." ekko questions. my eyebrows raise and i stiffle a laugh.
"fuck. you." vi says angrily.
"i thought you were dead. now you show up with a piltie and give her a tour of the lanes?" ekko asks while walking back and forth.
"you were following us? why didn't you say something?"
"i didn't know if i could trust you."
"so... so you just come out swinging?" vi asks looking at him.
"gee, i wonder who i learned that from?" ekko says looking at me and vi.
"ah, well, you shoulda' learned more you still punch like a little boy." vi agrues.
"and you still block with your face." ekko says before going quiet. i stand up and put my hands on my hips, ekko looked at me in shook. i walked over to giving him a big hug.
"missed you, grease boy." i said wrapping my arms around him.
"how long have you had those off?" ekko said hugging me back. i didn't get to answer because i felt another pair of arms embrace us both. it was vi. i didn't tense up, but i definitely got a little stiff.
-
i'm blinded by the light that lightens my emerald eyes. i look up at the huge green tree and smile, not grin. not smirk, but smile. i hear kids yelling, playing and laughing with each other. kids fly around on the flying like boards, exclaiming with joy and happiness.
"is that a real tree?" vi asks looking at ekko, then at me then back to ekko again.
"pretty cool, huh?" ekko answers smirking at vi. "when i first saw it, i knew this was the place. if single seed could make it down here so can we." by now we were at the top of the tree looking over everyone.
"you built all this?" vi asked still looking around. i was feeling the tree leaves and smiling at the feeling of nature.
"not alone," ekko starts, a boy laughs there's a pause. "after vander... died." i cringed at the words, "died", and "vander" being put into the same sentence. "and silco flooded the lanes with shimmer. he didn't care what it did to people," i looked to the ground, walking over to the rail and standing by vi. "everyone here was an addict or a victim." kids looked up and greeted us with and alien hand, i smiled slightly back at them. "they needed somewhere safe to start again."
"i should have been there for you, for everyone." vi says making me look at her.
"that's a good way to drive yourself crazy." ekko says looking at me then vi. "if i just went with you that day, maybe none of this would have happened."
"or maybe you'd be dead. or... changed." vi says turning her back to us.
"powder's gone, vi." ekko says. "all that's left is jinx and she belongs to silco."
"she dosen't belong to him." i say looking at ekko. he goes to say something to me but vi speaks up first.
"you're wrong. she's still in there. i can reach her." vi argues turning to face us again.
"you can't." ekko sighs and looks down.
"i know my sister." vi states.
"i got one more thing to show you." ekko says motioning us to follow him.
-
"this is everyone we've lost." i see the girl that looked like vi. my heart sinks to my stomach and i look down. my eyes then drift to my painting. "the price of our freedom. some of it was enforcers, most was silco." my jaw tightens, and i look to the floor once more.
"your sister works for him not because she has to, but because she wants to." ekko says looking vi in her face, "i'm sorry but that's who she is now." vi breaths deeply and looks at the painting of powder.
-
we walk to the place the enforcer. caitlyn, was being held at. ekko opens the hatch and a little boy with a mask walks through the room. uncuffs her, takes the bag off of her head and kneels down with a bowl of water. she looks at the little boy with disgust and smacks the water out of his hands.
"what have you done with vi?" caitlyn speaks angrily, her gaze drifts to ekko sitting in the entry way, then to me leaning against the doorframe. "listen, let her go. i brought her here. it's me you want." i almost laugh out loud to her words. vi comes out from behind the wall.
"my hero." vi says smirking.
"you're- but i thought you... i thought they were hurting you!" caitlyn yells to the cocky red head.
"vi tells us we can trust you." ekko says to caitlyn, by we he means me and him. "you get a pass back topside, that's it. lets go." ekko says standing up from his spot.
"she better be right." i say pushing myself from the doorframe.
