"I don't understand why everyone hates you guys," you said, patting Glacier on the neck.
It was already fairly late when you joined the others in the dining hall.
"Where did Hiccup go wrong?" you heard Gobber ask when you opened the huge door.
"He showed up," Ruffnut suggested.
"He didn't get eaten," Tuffnut added.
"He's never where he's supposed to be," Astrid said confidently.
You rolled your eyes and sat at the table where Hiccup was.
"Hey," you said quietly, starting to eat your food.
"Hi," he said somewhat sadly.
"I don't think you did that bad," you told him with a comforting smile. "It's okay to not be perfect on the first try."
"But I almost got killed," he reasoned.
"But you didn't," you pointed out.
"That's thanks to you," he said again.
"And who exactly told you that you can't use others' help?" you encountered.
He stayed quiet for a bit before smiling. "Thank you, Y/n."
You looked up from the conversation and noticed the other teens had left, leaving a book on the table.
"You wanna read with me?" you asked, picking it up. "Knowing about them should do good."
"Sure," he said, going to bring a candle since it was getting dark. When he got back, everyone else had already left.
"Sorry," he apologized. "I couldn't find it."
"It's fine," you chuckled. "Happens to the best of us."
He nodded before sitting down and setting the candle so you two could read the book.
He started flipping through the book, as if searching for something. He stopped at the Night Fury page and started to read it out.
"Hiccup," you asked suddenly, making him pause.
"Yeah?" he answered, looking up.
"Do you, actually... want to kill dragons?" you asked, hesitating a bit.
"I- H- How did you know?" he stuttered.
"You seemed unenthusiastic at the training," you said.
"Well, I..." he trailed off, hesitating. "I don't want to kill them. I would say they are rather misunderstood. What about you?"
"I agree with you," you said, smiling a bit.
"Then, don't tell anyone but, I let the Night Fury I shot down go," he told you the half truth.
"Really? I think you did the right thing," you said with a smile. "And don't worry, I won't tell."
"Here," he said, taking a notebook from his vest. "That's what he looks- looked like."
You nodded, looking at the drawing. "Why is one of the tail fins fogged out?"
"It got a bit wet," he chuckled nervously.
You nodded before standing up. "Well thanks for telling me. I'll head home now. Got to get sleep before tomorrow. Training, y'know?"
He nodded. "Yeah, sure. Good night."
"Night!" you called before stepping out the door.
