Sam and Jaziline survived two more classes, lunch, and then made their way to the gymnasium for fighting classes.
This was one of the only classes all the subjects had together.
Calypsa was waiting for them when they arrived. They exchanged greetings quickly before turning their attention to the Inspector.
"In this class you will be learning to fight with weapons and hand to hand. We have done background checks on each of you, so we will separate you depending on your prior experience with weapons and fighting."
On the wall was projected the groups that they were going to be in. "These groups are only temporary, hopefully by the time you have been put in your teams you will all be more or less on the same level."
Jaziline found herself in a group somewhat high on the list. To her surprise, Calypsa was in the highest group. "I don't know you could fight." She said accusingly to the girl beside her.
"My sister and I used to do Jiu-Jitsu and Judo. Besides, our dad was a licensed arms dealer. His job was to sell weapons, so I know my way around a gun."
"Wow, you just got a lot cooler in my eyes." Jaziline turned at the sound of a British accent. "What princess? Not happy to see me?"
"Just surprised," she said, but in reality she was thinking about his odd silence in linguistics earlier. "What group are you in?"
"Oh, way at the bottom. My foster parents wouldn't even let me do sports, afraid I'd overshadow their kids." "You don't sound worried."
"Well, what their 'background check' didn't see was that I used to help this guy who lived in my town make guns and knives. He needed an assistant and my foster parents would never have agreed so I'd sneak over there and help him."
"So you're good with weapons?" The redhead clarified. "Yeah, I-" he was cut off by the Inspector telling them to get into their groups.
"Talk to you ladies later," he called as he walked away. Jaziline and Calypsa rolled their eyes before breaking onto their groups.
Jaziline found herself partnered with a gorgeous blonde haired girl. The girl shyly looked at her, offering her hand, "I'm Azeala, nice to meet you."
"Pleasure, I'm Jaziline." She said slowly, studying the girl before her. Something about her was different, but she couldn't quite place it.
Her attention was pulled away by one of the instructors telling them that their objective was to get the other person to submit.
Calypsa watched her friend from the other side of the room. Jaziline was standing with her knees slightly bent, her arms loose at her side.
To anyone else it might have seemed she had no idea what she was doing. But Calypsa knew Jaziline well enough to know that she was always ready.
She also knew that her nonchalant position was a ruse. Jaziline was never on low alert, besides, she had the fastest reflexes of anyone Calypsa knew. Nothing would get past her.
Calypsa turned her attention back to the boy in from of her, from his stance she could see he was obviously some kind of boxer. But she knew from experience that boxers put too much of their weight into their strikes. Especially when facing someone they deemed not good enough.
But this boy had to be at least a bit smart, or he wouldn't have survived the Earth's destruction. The moment she let her mind dwell on the fact that earth was gone she was flooded with memories.
A red head girl with green eyes calling to her from a tree, "Come up, you can see everything!"
The girl packing a bag, "I'm going to visit Grandma, she's in the hospital, are you sure you don't want to come?"
"I'm sure."
An accident
A funeral
Her mother sobbing as she tried to comfort her
The meteors beginning to hit, the screams...
"Begin"
The boys first hit caught her off guard, but in a moment she was back on her feet. She studied his position, a voice on her head saying "his left ankle, it's weaker," she sighed internally "I noticed, Zoë."
She circled the boy for a few seconds before he threw another punch. She caught his arm and pulled him forward, hooking a foot around his left ankle.
He went sprawling forward, she took the opportunity to wrap her legs around his neck and swing him onto his back. She pinned him down with her knee and put an elbow to his throat.
"Yield,"
As she helped he laughed good-naturedly, "You fight like a demon little one." He said in a Russian accented voice. "You look like one, a very handsome demon." she responded, he laughed at that.
"My name is Maxim, Maxim Petrov" he said, "Calypsa Antigua," she said with a mock bow "It's a pleasure."
"The pleasure is all mine little demon, I will see you later?" He asked "You will." She smiled.
A/N-Maxim Petrov, played by Alex Høgh Andersen. So we got a little of Calypsa's pov and she talks to her sister in her head, apparently. Anyway jobs and teams coming up next.
Don't forget to vote.
