"Is Jo back from Aunt March?" Marme yelled walking into the kitchen. She was off to see father and was getting ready to leave.

"No I haven't seen her yet." Clara stated walking down the stairs and over to her mother.

" you must have another pair of shoes" Hanna said to Marme placing a pair of tan boots into her suitcase. Clara hated those shoes she thought they would make her Marme look as white as a ghost.

"Thank you. I cant miss the last train." Marme exclaimed "Oh Clara did you get Fathers night shirts?"

"Yes I did." Clara said placing a stack of shirts into Marmes suitcase.

Laurie then walked into the kitchen his arm wrapped around poor sick Beth who had fallen ill. Clara watched as she hobbled into the room Laurie's grip on her tightening.

The laurences were over. Also providing assistance to Marmes travels. Clara thought it was sweet how Laurie cared so much about her family.

"Do we need more books or cloth?" Hannah asked Clara.

"I think we're okay."

"Hannah medicine?" Marme asked beginning to close her suitcase.

"The medicine is all packed." Hannah reassured, causing Marme to let a breath.

Meg then suddenly bumped into Mr.Brooke, her face softening at the sight of him. Clara watching the twos interaction closely.

"I came to offer myself as an escort to your mother." Mr.Brooke told Meg "It would give me satisfaction to be of service to-"

Mr.Brooke was cut of by Meg giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you." Meg whispered a smile gracing her face. She quickly walked back into the kitchen leaving Mr.Brooke flustered.

Clara smiled at Meg. Clara wanted nothing more then to be able to give Laurie kisses on the cheek in the future.

"While i'm gone Hannah is in charge make sure to check on the Humbles it will be a difficult winter for everyone." Marme informed her four of five daughters.

Jo then walked in carrying a heap of money. A hat worn on top of her head.

"Will this be enough money for the train?" She handing over the cash to Marme.

"Twenty five dollars?!" Marme asked shocked looking from the money to Jo. "That's not like Aunt March to be so generous."

Clara couldn't help but look to the floor.

"I didn't go to her I couldn't bear to." Jo scoffed

"Where did you get the money?" Marme questioned still shocked as to how Jo could muster up so much in a mer few hours.

"I only sold what was my own." Jo said taking off her hat to reveal a pixie cut.

"Jo!" Clara gasped staring at Jo's now short locks "Your one beauty!"

"You look like a boy." Hannah noted linking arms with Clara.

"Well it doesn't affect the fate of the nation so don't wail." Jo inquired touching the top of her head.

"I'm so proud your my daughter." Marme said tears forming in her eyes

"I was just crazy to do something for father." Jo softly whispered "It'll be good for my vanity anyway."

"That could be nice." Meg said slowly nodding, still shocked.

"You never do that." Amy added pointing to Beth as she stared at Jo speechless.

"This isn't what I wanted for her." Hannah said out of shock as well.

"Not to mention that Jo will have to be wearing more head wear and the hat she wore in her was just horrid." Clara added her hand making its way over her mouth as she shook her head in shame.

"Oh teddy." Jo sighed running up to Laurie and giving him a hug.

Clara began gritting her teeth together as she watched the twos interaction with each other. Clara learned that the best way to suppress her jealousy was to act like she didn't care.

"My girls I love you more than words can say" Marme said "Be good to each other pray for father's recovery and i'll be back as soon as I can." she reassured giving every March sister a kiss on the head.

Later that night Clara was woken up by the sound of crying only to find Jo sobbing at the top of the staircase.

"Jo." Clara whispered softly her grip loosening on the candle in her hand "What is it? Is it father?"

"No" Jo whimpered "It's my hair." she sobbed running her hands through her short blonde locks.

"It's okay." Clara comforted sitting down and giving Jo a hug. All jealously leaving her body from earlier that day. "I would feel the same way."

"I know you would." Jo cried into her sisters arm, her tears staining Clara's lace nightgown.
