┗ ━━┅━━━┅━━ ┛In the later morning hours of December twenty-fifth, Anthony was in the kitchen making sure that all of the dishes were done before he and his lover were due to set out for the day. This was his first Christmas away from home, so he wasn't exactly sure what to expect.
It was certainly a change with the warmer temperatures of New Orleans, making it that much harder to believe that it was even winter.Drying his hands and looking out the window for a quick second, the blond took a breath. Alastor was just upstairs getting dressed but once he was ready, they would be on their way.
In the meantime, Anthony walked through toward the front door. It was something he hated doing considering the events of the past year that was near its close.
Shaking out his hands and taking a singular calming breath, he reached out for the knob and gripped it tightly. It took a moment or two for the Italian to gain the courage to actually turn it and open the door, but the warm outside air and bright light of the sun soon flooded the foyer.
Just as it always did, a tight feeling quickly took hold of Anthony's stomach and twisted without mercy.Once he was able to move, he leaned out of the threshold, looked around to make sure that no one was in the immediate area, and scampered out toward the mailbox. He couldn't stand to be outside alone for very long, so he grabbed whatever mail they had from the past three days and ran back inside with a loud slam of the door behind him. It felt like the air had been knocked out of his lungs five times over, but now that he was safe inside, he was slowly starting to gain some of that oxygen back.
Bringing the pieces of mail forward, green eyes finally took note of how many items he had in his shaking hand. Carding through, he noted four envelopes; all with Alastor's name scrawled on the back in various penmanship styles. Anthony rolled his eyes with a huff.
"Oy vey... all that for more fuckin' dame letters..."Alastor, on the other hand, was indeed inside, finishing the final touches of his outfit, fingers tugging the sides of his crimson-colored bow tie. Of course, given the day, Alastor was dressed even smarter than usual. And if you asked him, he would have absolutely admitted to looking nothing less than the bee's knees.
"Ah, Réveillon."
The man hummed, spinning swiftly around from the mirror he had been facing in a sharp heel turn.
"Today will be the most perfect day for mon ange, don't you think?"
From the very corners of the room, where the shadows all merged into one, a familiar dark figure arose. Claw-like fingers slunk across the room, settling in a firm and reassuring grip upon Alastor's shoulder.Head tilting to the side as he eyed his shadowed friend, it was at the sudden bang coming from downstairs, that Alastor's train of thought was completely derailed.
The four walls surrounding him practically shook under the force of the slamming front door, however, it didn't alarm Alastor at all.
It seemed that every time Anthony went outside even if just for a moment, the panicked slamming of a door that followed was to be expected. However, it was a lot better than what it had been. Take just a few months ago around Valentine's Day for example- Anthony would've never even considered going out for their mail.Crossing the bedroom and opening the door to the hallway, Alastor stuck his head out.
"Anthony dearest, is everything alright?"
Their home may have not been the biggest of places, but Alastor still had to call out to be heard from upstairs.
"I don't suppose that was the mail you went to fetch just now?"
