For the fourth time of the week, Myungsoo was going back to the Centre. He had been going there for the past four days that Hyoan hyung did not feel a single tinge of surprise as Myungsoo had refused to go to the Centre at first. That day, Myungsoo decided to learn more about Soo Jung.
Myungsoo's light footsteps found his way back to the outdoor garden, the only place he knew which greenery and nature could soothe Soo Jung from her past as well. The previous days Myungsoo talked to Soo Jung were mostly about their past and Myungsoo specially thought of what to ask her about that day.
Trotting to the bench which Soo Jung sat, Myungsoo shyly realised that he did not know how to start the conversation as there was still a little bit of awkwardness between them, and he let out a slightly audible, "Annyeong."
"Annyeonghasaeyo, Myungsoo-ssi." Soo Jung's dominant voice called out to him. She moved on the bench such that she occupied half of it, and beckoned Myungsoo to sit down beside her.
"Myungsoo-ssi, what brings you here today?"
"Uhh, I was just chilling around..." Myungsoo did not know how to answer Soo Jung's and his reply came out more of a question than an answer. He added on,"Soo Jung-ssi, what brought you to the centre?"
Although Soo Jung was wearing shades, Myungsoo could see her expression darken. "It's a long story, you wouldn't understand, Myungsoo-ssi. You didn't have a past as dark as mine."
Myungsoo inhaled in a deep breath. Who was Soo Jung to talk about his past? He had also lost a lot... He wanted to give up and his the walls of protection, love, happiness built around him crumbled when all the scars were formed. He wanted to share his past and experiences with Soo Jung, but her statement felt like it just slapped him in the face.
"Aniyo, you're not the only one who lost so much in life. Why wouldn't I understand you?"
"At least... You can see the things which are all left for you. I can't see anything. I can only feel, and there are some things which you can only see with your pair of eyes. Nature, scenery..."
"There are some things which we all don't want to see. Being able to see everything is not heaven, you will see your memories from the past, nightmares of the present as well. It reminds you of the things you hate, the people you miss, the dark memories. Although I agree that losing one of your senses is indeed heartbreaking but really, it's not all that good either." Myungsoo sighed.
After Myungsoo's speech, they were silent for a while. Lost in their thoughts. Staring into the greenery in front of them. For the next few hours, Myungsoo and Soo Jung told each other more about the past. They felt comfortable with each other, as if they were really chingus until they continued the peaceful silence again. At that moment, Myungsoo felt the peace he had always been longing for for the past few years. He did not mind the fact that he was not alone, his thoughts were not interrupted by Soo Jung and he could sense that she was also lost in her own thoughts as well. He indeed felt the real tranquility of the afternoon.
Out of the blue, Myungsoo's phone rang, disturbing the peace he had not felt for quite a while.
"Annyeong? Hyoan hyung?"
"Myungsoo yah, I'll be at the carpark in a few minutes. See you there," Hyoan said.
Myungsoo put his phone in his pocket and turned to Soo Jung. He announced,"That was my hyung, I have to go now." Although Soo Jung could not see, her face was turned towards Myungsoo's direction.
"Okay, I'll walk you to the carpark."
The idea of Soo Jung walking him to the carpark sounded weird. Myungsoo declined her offer politely,"Kwenchana, I know how to get to the carpark myself."
"Ani, Myungsoo-ssi, this is only your fourth day here. You will find yourself lost. You don't know where the carpark is," Soo Jung said, knowledge filling her voice. Realisation struck Myungsoo like lightning after he heard what Soo Jung said. Indeed, he did not know where the carpark was. He felt blood rising up to his cheeks and admitted, "Arasso."
They walked side by side, Soo Jung walking with the stick in her hand. She was walking and moving so agilely, turning here and there, avoiding mini shrubs, it seemed like there was no need for the walking stick at all. Myungsoo thought that she'd do perfectly fine without it.
"So... how did you get to the Centre? Well, um... I mean, how did you... find out?" Myungsoo queried.
"That's a long story, I'll tell you when the time comes," she stopped in her tracks and pointed in front of them to a glass door. "It's just right ahead, go along now. I'll see you soon."
"Okay," Myungsoo replied. For someone without the sense of sight, it was amazing that she knew where every single thing was. When the time comes, what could that possibly mean? Myungsoo walked a few paces forward and turned around, only to see Soo Jung still standing there facing him, as if she could see him.
"You're coming back tomorrow?" Soo Jung snapped.
"Oh, err," Myungsoo was slapped out of his daydream. He blushed scarlet red. Could Soo Jung see him? "I guess so."
"Then you know where to find me," came the reply.
Myungsoo silently turned back around and pushed the heavy glass door and went out to the carpark and waited patiently for Hyoan hyung.
