as a musical family one tradition that athena's family had always had was staying up late to watch the grammy nominations.
the night had been great, with everyone drinking and chatting as they sat around the living room, the live stream playing on the tv. nothing had been out of the usual in any way, until they reached the nominees for best new artist.
"and the nominees for best new artist are... arooj aftab, jimmie allen, baby keem, finneas, glass animals, japanese breakfast, last stop before midnight, the kid laroi, arlo parks, olivia rodrigo and saweetie." the announcer read, and there was a moment of still.
"holy fuck." athena mumbled. "we're nominated for a fucking grammy."
the room erupted in screams of excitement, athena's whole family reaching for her to celebrate.
finally they had made it.
