5| potions

That morning Asteria woke up with a small smile on her face. It was the first day of classes and her first class would be Potions, which was one of her favorite subjects.

She took her time getting ready since she still had a lot of time before her first class. That morning she chose to wear a pair of light blue silk gloves and took only a few minutes to brush her hair, which made her quite proud.

On stressful days she would brush her hair to exhaustion, but since that was a happy day, she didn't feel the need to spend a long time brushing her hair. It was perfectly combed after a few minutes.

Before leaving her dorm she woke up Phoebe, for if she didn't her friend would most likely be late. As expected, Phoebe had a huge headache, but she still got ready quickly and walked with Asteria towards the Great Hall.

"I shouldn't have drunk so much last night. Why didn't you stop me?" Phoebe asked.

Asteria chuckled while drinking her coffee, "I wasn't there to stop you, Phoebe. Do you remember what you told me last night?"

She took a few seconds to answer, "Unfortunately."

"So what are you going to do?"

"I'm not sure yet, but I'll probably just write a letter to Laurie explaining we can't continue together," she swallowed her food slowly, "I feel bad about what I did, though. I mean, yes, I was going to break up with Laurie anyway, but I actually cheated on him last night."

Asteria took a bite of her toast, "Twice."

"What was I thinking? I always do stupid things when I'm drunk. Really, I shouldn't be allowed to drink anymore," Phoebe stopped talking when the seat beside her was taken by none other than her brother.

"Good morning, sister. Good morning, Ria. You two look lovely today," he winked at Asteria and she made a small smile.

"Morning, Tom," she said, "Are you ready for your last year at Hogwarts?"

"Not really. I miss it already," he sighed sadly, "But I'm gonna miss you the most, Malfoy."

"Ugh, stop it," Phoebe groaned, "What do you want? Shouldn't you be eating breakfast with your fellow Hufflepuffs?"

"Indeed. But I came to tell you that mom wants to talk to you."

Phoebe frowned, "Why?"

"I don't know. She sounded mad, though."

"What? Why?"

Asteria stopped listening to their conversation when she saw her own brother entering the Great Hall, accompanied by Cissy and barely looking in her direction. Unlike Tom, he didn't approach his sister. Instead, he just walked towards the Slytherin table and had his breakfast calmly while she looked at him waiting for some kind of reaction.

She wasn't surprised when he ignored her presence. Over the years, Lucius and Asteria became practical strangers when they were at Hogwarts. He would only talk to her either when she was with Crabbe or when she was alone. She knew perfectly well the reason why he did that. He was ashamed of her. He was ashamed of her for being friends with Muggle-borns and for being a blood-traitor.
