2| the black sheep
Sirius Black grew up knowing he could have anything material he wanted. Anyone would look at the eldest son of Orion and Walpurga Black and wish they could be him. He belonged to one of the most privileged families in the wizardry world, he had the looks, he had a big family and good friends.
However, the world is a cruel place and nothing can be perfect, not even Sirius Black's life. Despite the privilege, the looks, the gold, among others, Sirius Black wished he could trade lives with anyone else. He wanted an escape, he wanted stability and, above all, he wanted a family.
And as he knocked on James Potter's door with a broom in his hand and a small trunk on the other, that was all he could think about. It was finally time to live without being scared of going home on Christmas. No one should be scared of being with their own family and Sirius wanted to live his life the best way possible, without his mother's cruel words, his father's heavy hands on him, and the constant reminder of being black sheep of the family.
The rain poured on him that Summer night as he waited for someone to open the door. He knocked again, guessing the Potters were probably sleeping already. Suddenly he felt guilty of bothering them once again, but he had nowhere else to go. He had never been to Peter's house before and Remus' family was quite problematic. Besides, James was his brother and he knew he and his family would help him.
When the door finally opened, Sirius did his best not to panic and masked his anxiety with a small smile. James Potter gasped when he saw his best friend standing in front of him with a truck, a broom, and tears in his eyes.
"Sirius? What's wrong?" He opened the door wider to let Sirius in and helped him take off his soaked jacket, "What happened, mate? Are you alright?"
Sirius stepped inside and sighed, allowing James to grab his broom and his truck, "I finally did it," he shrugged, not being able to look at his friend's worried and confused face, "I ran away from home and my parents. I couldn't take it any longer. May I stay here until I find a new place?"
Jame closed the door and dragged Sirius to the living room, "Of course, of course! You can live here for as long as you want, don't worry about it! But what happened this time?"
Sirius sat on the couch while James tapped his foot on the floor repeatedly, waiting for an explanation. After five years, James was more than used to Sirius' horrible stories about his parents' behavior, but he still wondered what they had done to make Sirius leave their house permanently.
"They organized this party tonight and they tried forcing me to go, but I said no. So they got pretty mad and huh... they said and did a few things that made me realize I couldn't stay any longer there."
James nodded his head, "Do you want to talk about it?" The dark-haired wizard shook his head slowly, "Alright, then. I will make you some tea."
The moment James left the room, his mother appeared with a worried face and messy hair, "Sirius, my dear, what happened? Are you alright?" She crouched in front of him and Sirius gave her a small smile but knew he couldn't mask his sadness. Not on a day like that.
"Huh- I had to leave my house. And my family." He said, after a long pause, earning a loud gasp from Euphemia.
She nodded her head, immediately understanding what he meant. Next, she took her wand from her nightgown pocket and pointed it at him, immediately drying off his wet clothes, "What have they done to you this time? Do you want me to talk with them? Or anyone else?" As Sirius looked at those concerned big eyes, his only thought was that his mother had never looked at him like that.
