"You know, after two months without seeing me, I thought you would be slightly happier to see me again," Phoebe spoke after watching her best friend opening her book before the train even left the station.
Asteria raised her eyes from the book on her lap and sighed, "I'm sorry, Phoebe. You know how much I missed you."
"You could show it or at least try. I obviously wasn't expecting a hug from you, but I would really like to catch up with you," she frowned, "You're odd today. What's wrong?"
"Nothing. I'm just nervous."
"Nervous?" Phoebe laughed, not believing her friend's words, "Is everything okay between you and Evan?"
"We're great," Asteria shrugged, "What about you? How was your summer?"
"I'm going to ignore the change of subject because we will definitely come back to this later," she pointed her finger at her warningly, "I will tell you about my summer because it was incredible."
"Did you go to the States again?" Asteria raised her eyebrows, remembering that was what her American friend usually did every summer.
"Yes, of course. I went to visit my family. It was nice, but something much nicer happened," she smiled suggestively, "I found my soulmate."
Asteria made a small smile, trying not to show her true feelings about what her friend had said. However, she knew better than to believe Phoebe's love speculations. Every month she had a new sweetheart, every day she saw some new potential lover.
"You did?" The Malfoy closed the book and placed it on the seat next to her as she felt the train start moving, "What's her name?"
"This time is a boy. His name is Laurie and he's studying to become a doctor."
Asteria tried not to look surprised, "He's a muggle?"
"Yes, Asteria, a muggle. A fantastic muggle, let me tell you," she pointed her finger at her friend, "Don't be judgemental."
"I didn't say anything. I just asked a simple question," she shrugged.
Phoebe chuckled, "You were thinking it."
"I don't have a problem with muggles and you know that," she looked outside the window, trying to remain stoic, "I really like some muggles, like your parents, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Socrates, David Hume, Tolstoy, Shakespeare, James Henry, Dorothy Parker, the Brontë sisters, Dumas, -"
"I get it, I get it."
"But, I just don't understand what could you possibly have in common with a muggle. You want to be an Auror, Phoebe, and he wants to be a doctor. You live in two different worlds."
The American witch rolled her eyes, "My parents live in the muggle world and that changes nothing. They accepted really well that I and Tom are wizards."
"But does Laurie even know about you?" Asteria crossed her legs and turned her full attention to her best friend, waiting for an answer that didn't come, "Exactly. He might be your soulmate, but will he really be patient and wait until Christmas to see you again? Will you really be able to maintain a long-distance relationship? Will he really accept you when you say you're a witch?"
Phoebe narrowed her eyes at her best friend and sighed, "Sometimes you don't have to be so rational, you know? You could show some feelings now and then."
The blonde wizard tried not to act affected by her friend's words, so she simply shrugged her shoulders and looked out the window again, "I've been like this my whole life and you know it. This is who I want to be."
