"Nonsense, you've always been a goody-two-shoes." Colby replied slyly, seeing Rebecca's eyes widen.
"You seem to be neglecting our teenage years." She laughed, "I think you might need to rewind that thought."
Colby paused, remembering the antics Rebecca used to get involved in. "Yup, you're right. Looks like Danielle won't be hanging around you... like ever again."
Rebecca chuckled, "I'll find a way, and you know it."
"You and your stubbornness." He leaned in and gave her a hug with his free arm, and she gladly returned it. "Thank you so much again."
"No need to thank me, seriously," Rebecca stated as she moved the high chair out of the way and brought Danielle's plastic bowl to the sink. "You know it's always my pleasure."
Colby shook his head and smiled as he watched Rebecca clean the small bowl. He turned his attention to Danielle and started talking to her when she looked up at him. Rebecca noticed the baby tone he used when communicating with Danielle.
"Hypocrite." She mumbled even though she couldn't hide the small smile that overtook her face when she relished in the daddy-daughter duo.
Before Rebecca could call him out for his baby voice, a knock at the door interrupted her. She looked over at Colby, wondering if he was expecting someone, but in return, he just shrugged. She made her way over to the door while Colby remained with Danielle in the kitchen.
Rebecca opened the door and her face wrinkled in a mixture of disgust and confusion, "Sarah?"
"Becks, who is it?" Colby called out, getting no response.
Sarah looked her up and down, rolling her eyes and stepping into the house uninvited. "Colby, we need to talk."
Colby immediately recognized the voice and person as he made his way over to the door. "What are you doing here?"
Rebecca moved back towards Colby, and Danielle and Sarah scoffed in disgust. "Oh, so this is a thing now? You're that desperate?"
Rebecca clenched her jaw and rolled her eyes while Colby wrapped his free arm around Rebecca's waist as a natural protection reflex and to let her know things would be fine. Sarah and Rebecca had never gotten along, mainly because Rebecca saw the negative signs in her before Colby did and made it evident to try and push Sarah away. Meanwhile, Sarah was always jealous of the close-knit relationship Rebecca and Colby had.
"It's none of your business," Rebecca stated flatly, not caring when the sharp tone in her voice broke through towards the end of her statement. She and Colby both knew they were just friends, but neither of them felt the need to correct Sarah.
Sarah rolled her eyes again, "Pathetic."
"What do you want, Sarah?" Colby's voice was almost as harsh as Rebecca's.
"Can we speak privately?" Sarah tapped her foot, looking around nervously. "Please?"
"Anything you want to say can be said here and now." Colby kept it blunt, not wanting to keep her around any longer than he had to.
Sarah stared at the two and swallowed hard, "I'm pregnant."
Rebecca's face turned pale, but Colby seemed surprisingly calm and completely unconvinced. He just stared at Sarah, annoyed. "I can see that... and?"
Rebecca immediately had to hide a small laugh, and Sarah shot her an evil look with a small malicious smirk forming on her lips. "It's yours."
"Yeah, sure it is." Colby rolled his eyes and let out an exasperated sigh. Rebecca's face remained blank as she and Colby both knew he and Sarah had been broken up for way too long for the child to actually be his. "Please leave Sarah."
Sarah threw her hands up in frustration, "It is yours! I'm being honest!"
Colby wanted to laugh on the spot, but he managed to keep his composure, knowing their whole relationship was built on her being deceitful. "You're incapable."
Rebecca grew frustrated as the minutes of bickering went on. She moved to take a step forward, trying to escape Colby's grasp, but he just moved with her. Letting out a sigh, Rebecca finally chimed in. "He asked you to leave."
Sarah quickly turned toward Rebecca, and she looked as if she forgot she even existed. But that didn't stop her from taking a step closer to Rebecca and letting out a sinister smile, "This doesn't concern you. Don't get all jealous of me just because I will actually be able to give birth to a healthy child."
Rebecca's breathing immediately sped up, and she saw red. Colby gripped her waist tighter and turned her away from the door. He quickly distracted Rebecca by handing her Danielle, as he knew she wouldn't do anything stupid with the little girl in her grasp.
He turned back towards Sarah furiously, staring at her with a look that would kill. He pointed to the door viciously, slamming it behind her when she let out a scoff and finally walked out. Colby slowly turned back to Rebecca and saw the distant look on her face.
He hated that he didn't know how to make the pain stop for her and that she would probably be dealing with these feelings for the entirety of her life. He tried speaking to her softly, but it was clear that she wasn't hearing him.
Rebecca just stood there staring straight ahead, holding the little girl in her arms safely against her chest. Colby walked over to her slowly and stood behind Rebecca. He placed a gentle kiss on the top of her head and stroked her shoulders soothingly.
Danielle managed to lift her head and catch Rebecca's attention when she gently placed her little hand on Rebecca's cheek, staring at her innocently. A single tear escaped Rebecca's eye and rolled down her cheek as she placed her hand on Danielle's and closed her eyes.
