Colby was at a time in his life when he was actually looking forward to waking up every morning.
Most of them started with him waking up to soft kisses instead of an alarm or from the smell of fresh coffee brewing downstairs. It was almost like he was living a dream, and he was going to do everything in his power to make sure that dream remained their reality.
Weeks had passed, and Rebecca would be lying if she said she wasn't happy. It took her a bit to get past the confrontation with Colby, and she made sure he was aware she'd have to warm up again slowly, but eventually, things felt normal again, and it was as if nothing had happened.
The two were dealing with their legal action, and they had a court date set for a few more months. Sarah hadn't dared come by to complain, and a part of Rebecca was yearning for her to try again.
That particular day, however, was more important than anything else going on in their lives. They were about to be celebrating Danielle's first birthday.
Rebecca had just walked downstairs to find Colby sitting across from Danielle, who was in her booster seat next to the kitchen table. Danielle giggled as she watched Colby accidentally cover himself in glitter while decorating, making unknowingly silly faces in the process.
Colby, being the self-declared planner that he was, wanted to take charge of all the decorating. But Rebecca still didn't see the need to decorate so much.
Danielle saw her and got excited, clapping and waving her arms around. "Mama!"
"There's my little birthday girl!" Rebecca placed a kiss on her baby's forehead and stroked some of her small curls.
She laughed, making her way over to him, "Colby, it's just going to be us, your parents, and a few work stragglers."
"Exactly, that's a lot of people." He replied slowly, as he pieced together a banner.
Rebecca poked his side, "It could've been more if you actually socialized with people."
"Pot or kettle?" He questioned as he continued to concentrate.
"What?" Rebecca laughed as she picked Danielle up and placed her against her hip.
Colby smirked, "Are you the pot or the kettle calling the other black?"
"That's an interesting way of calling me a hypocrite." She smiled, "But... definitely the kettle, tea trumps coffee every time."
"That's a debate for a different time." Colby replied as he turned towards her causing Rebecca to laugh even more.
She shook her head and moved towards him, plucking some chunks of glitter out of his curls. "You've done enough. I'll get the rest. Go take a shower."
She put Danielle in her playpen in the living room, and Colby watched her with a smile. "You could join me."
"No, that is not happening." Rebecca laughed, "Go, you big lug. Your family is probably already on their way, and you're gonna get glitter everywhere."
"It's a shame that I don't care." His sly expression made itself present before he grabbed Rebecca and shook his head over top of her.
"Colby!" Her laugh was boisterous, "Now I'm gonna be finding glitter all over me for the next week!"
She squirmed in his arms, and his chuckle didn't help the matter. "Correction, I'm gonna be finding glitter all over you for the next week."
Colby picked her up and carried her upstairs, over his shoulder, her laughs filling the halls. He placed her onto the bed, trapping her in a heavy kiss, as he stayed standing by the edge of it. "And I'm gonna love..."
He let his lips drag on from Rebecca's to her jaw, making his way down as she clung onto his hair. "Every..."
He pressed his lips against her hammering pulse point. "Single..."
Her breath hitched when his fingers gently coasted across her midsection, where her shirt had lifted. "Second..."
Rebecca's gasps and Colby's heavy breathing was all that was heard until her eyes shot open. "Door."
Colby smirked against her skin, his beard tickling her. "More?"
"No." She laughed and pulled his head away from her chest. "The door."
"The door?" Colby questioned before more knocking was heard, and realization erased the lust in his gaze. "Oh, shit, the door."
He stood up quickly and exited the room as he yelled jokingly. "Stop distracting me, Quin. Goddamnit!"
Colby's family ended up arriving early, as Rebecca had predicted. So she rushed to make sure she looked decent and finished putting away the extra decorations while Colby went to answer the door.
The others slowly trickled in, and by the end of the day, the trio was drained. Rebecca finished washing up a cake-covered Danielle while Colby put her presents and toys away.
She took a deep breath after scrolling through her phone and seeing notifications from Claudio on their cases. She was too tired to entertain them, so she disregarded her phone on her bedside table.
Colby slipped into bed, watching Rebecca tie her hair up and brush her teeth. They were simple things, but seeing her doing them in his house felt right. She still hadn't moved in, but he was to blame for not asking sooner.
When she got into bed next to him and cuddled into his side, he smiled. "Today was fun."
"It was." Rebecca replied as Colby felt her nod.
"You're an amazing mother." He kissed her forehead, and she tilted her head to look up at him.
"You're an amazing father." She replied, and he would've done anything to keep that smile on her face. "And I'm proud of you. Even if you don't believe I should be."
They stared at one another, quietly content before Colby whispered. "Move in with us."
He saw her face twitch in confusion as she laughed hesitantly. "What?"
"Stay here." Colby kissed her, "Make this home our home."
Rebecca smiled, seeing the love of her life and her forever, staring back at her intently. "Okay."
