Boxes filled the halls, as Rebecca walked around her otherwise empty house. A part of her was sad, it was her first significant investment, but she also knew it'd be good to leave the past in the past.

She began to reflect on things, realizing her home harboured a lot more memories than she previously thought, and for the most part, they were negative. Although everything eventually worked out in the end, the grief, discoveries, and turbulent journey were traumatic.

Rebecca had quickly gotten an offer for her place. It was no surprise, seeing as the market was going crazy, and a house near the town was always wanted. She just hoped whoever was moving in was able to fill the rooms with happiness and love in ways she never could.

She brought the boxes towards the front door just as Colby pulled up on the driveway. "How's it going?"

"These are the last of them." She called out, carrying them towards her car as Colby did the same before he would drop them off at his house while she got the next batch ready, repeating the process they'd been following throughout the day.

Once they were completely finished, Rebecca stared into her home from the outside, tracing the keys in her hand with her thumb. She felt Colby slowly stand close behind her, gently running his hands up and down her arms.

It had been a few months since he proposed the idea of living together, and they were both ecstatic. Danielle, of course, didn't know what was happening, but she knew she got to see her mother more, and that made her excited. The whole process was tiring, but new and exciting.

He placed such a gentle kiss behind her ear that it almost made her shiver. "You ready?"

"I think so?" Her laugh sounded unsure to Colby, almost like she was prepared but scared.

He wanted to let her decide when she was fully set, so he just stood behind her patiently. He knew it was a big step, and she was making a lot of changes for him and their family.

"Okay..." Rebecca took a deep breath, leaning against Colby. "I'm ready."

She smiled and craned her neck to look at Colby. "Let's go home."

They then shortly after found themselves unloading everything left into Colby's house. He watched Rebecca place a picture on the counter, a piece of art on the wall, and some pillows on the couch, soaking in how good it felt.

Her presence was always in his home with gifts she brought him, but having everything in place, her things and his, felt like it was always how it was supposed to be. At that moment, he cursed himself more than he ever had before for taking so long to make a move with her.

Danielle crawled around their feet as Rebecca folded up some of her clothes and put them away. The little girl pulled at her leg, and Rebecca effortlessly picked her up and held her against her hip without losing the rhythm of her folding.

Rebecca kissed her on the head as she finished up, and Colby couldn't picture a better life. He walked up behind them, wrapping his arms around them both.

"All done for today. I'm tired." Rebecca tapped Danielle's nose, making her giggle, and she looked up at Colby. "Movie?"

"Movie." He nodded, seeing her yawn and knowing they'd all probably end up falling asleep anyways.

Colby got settled on the couch, scrolling through the endless selection of films. He watched Rebecca walk out of the kitchen with Danielle in one arm and a tub of ice cream in the other.

When she sat beside him, Colby caught a whiff of the mint chocolate and jokingly gagged. "No way, get that shit out of here."

Rebecca smiled and just ate another spoonful, surprised when Danielle started grabbing for the spoon. "Oh, you are mommy's girl aren't you?"

"Don't you dare skew her judgement with that." Colby spoke sternly, seeing Rebecca gather a small amount on the spoon.

Rebecca raised an eyebrow at the potential sound of a challenge. "She can eat it if she would like to."

Colby shook his head adamantly, "She doesn't want it."

Rebecca chuckled, looking at the little girl sitting in her lap attentively. "Well, then I think it's only fair to let her decide then."

She placed the spoon against Danielle's lips gently, watching as the little girl licked her lips with wide eyes.

"See, she doesn't like it." Colby laughed with a tone of victory in his grin.

Until his expression fell as he watched their daughter grasp at the spoon with her little hands, licking the ice cream she got on her fingers.

She ate the dessert contently, and Colby muttered to himself. "Traitor."

Rebecca just looked at him with a grin, not even having to say a word before Colby shrunk down into the couch cushions. "Yeah, yeah, I know. Mother knows best and all that."

She laughed and placed the ice cream on the table, wiping Danielle clean with a nearby cloth. Rebecca placed Danielle in between the both of them as she curled into Colby's side.

After some debacle of trying to figure out what movie they should watch, they finally agreed on one they didn't have to pay too much attention to understand what was going on, and they could let their minds relax for once.

They could simply shut out the real world and enjoy the little family they were able to be a part of, knowing their lives were finally coming together, and eternal happiness was close on the horizon.

Sure they had issues they were still dealing with, and it might take a while to get used to their new dynamic, but they couldn't have been more ready.

They finally got the family they'd always dreamed of, and somehow it was even better than anything they could've ever imagined.
