TWO THINGS got me very, very excited tonight!
Una, I'd be performing the lead female role of "Twinkle, Twinkle," this season's offering in Clark Theater Center. Matagal ko ring pinaghandaan ang role na 'to, ah? Kinailangan kong mag-diet nang bongga at mag-effort sa pag-memorize ng lines. Ayaw kong mapahiya sa mga manonood lalo na't invited sa opening night namin ang city mayor at ilang VIPs. If I do well tonight, there's a chance na ma-discover ako at ma-offer-an ng role sa national stage. O 'di ba, exciting?
Pangalawa—and this was what made me really excited—my friends would be here to watch me perform! I got so busy with the rehearsals in the past few months kaya na-miss out ko ang ilang get together namin. I tried to contain my excitement, but I couldn't totally keep it to myself! Mas ninenerbyos pa yata akong makita ang mga kaibigan ko kaysa sa mismong performance. Well, I was kinda confident that I'd nail it so I had little to no worries about it. Mas nilo-look forward ko pa nga ang dinner namin mamaya.
Kanina pa ako pangiti-ngiti sa harap ng salamin dito sa dressing room habang inaayusan ng hairdresser. Sino ba namang hindi kikiligin kapag nakatanggap ng words of encouragement mula sa taong malalapit sa 'yo? I've been exchanging messages with Lorelei and Alistair, and they've been updating me kung nasaan na sila. Despite their hectic schedule, they still made time for my performance. Didiretso raw sila here from work.
But I was just a teensy bit sad. Kanina pa kasi ako naghihintay ng reply mula kay Loki, pero hindi pa siya sumasagot sa 'kin. I already texted him twice if he's coming. I was tempted to text him for the third time, but I controlled myself. Baka busy siya o may emergency siyang inaasikaso. I didn't want to bother him too much.
I hope he could make it tonight. I was really looking forward to seeing him again after all these months.
"Hindi pa siya nagre-reply, 'no?" tanong ng katabi kong babae na may mahabang buhok at inaayusan din ng isa pang hairdresser.
Lumingon ako kay Madonna, isa sa mga co-star ko sa production na 'to. We both auditioned for the lead role, but I got luckier than her. She's a good actress too, no doubt. I thought she'd resent me for it since she's been wanting to land on this role. But we became good friends in the end.
Teka, paano niya nalaman? Was I obvious? Was I giving too many hints through my face?
"He must be busy!" I replied with a smile. Muli akong humarap sa salamin. The hairdresser did a great job at making my hairdo look neat. "He's working in forensics kaya hindi na ako magtataka kung male-late siya o hindi siya makaa-attend. I'll understand him. Sure namang pupunta ang dalawa kong friend kaya tonight's gonna be all right pa rin."
