Christmas Day. Or at least, that's what it was to most people. Vlad never particularly cared for the holiday. He was planning on spending it alone in his room, getting drunk off beer, as he did every year. His mom probably would have forced him to spend it at their home if it weren't for the fact that she was currently abroad on a work trip. Not that he minded, considering he was perfectly satisfied spending it in the Austria family unit. He was getting ready to treat himself to a birthday dinner and open the food delivery app when his phone started to ring. The caller ID showed the name of someone he hadn't spoken to in quite some time.
"Anna? It's been a while! 'Musta?" he said, answering the call.
"Vlad! Happy birthday!" Anna said through the phone.
"Na-miss kita, ah. Sorry, parang 'di na tayo nag-usap ever since-" He began to reply before she interrupted him.
"Ano ka ba, Vlad! 'Wag ka nang mag-sorry, 'di mo naman kasalanan 'yun, eh. Anyway, dahil na-miss din kita... Surprise! Nandito ako sa condo mo. Nasa lobby pa ako, wait lang aakyat na ako! See you!" She announced excitedly.
"O-oh okay, see you!" Vlad said, eyes wide with surprise.
The call ended and Vlad scrambled to get dressed.
Sana naman nagbigay siya ng advanced notice, nakapambahay lang ako...
He put on a light blue t-shirt and brown shorts, finishing his outfit with a jacket and white sneakers. He had just finished putting on his shoes when he heard someone knocking on the door.
He got up to open it to find Anna on the other side. Her straight brown hair was shoulder length, a bit longer than it was when he had last seen her almost a year ago. She was wearing a white sleeveless shirt and blue short shorts and was carrying a black handbag.
"Vlad!" She yelled, giving him a hug.
"I- I missed you too." He said, hugging her back, a bit surprised.
"Siyempre, dahil extra ako, may isa pa akong surprise para sa'yo." Anna said, backing away from the hug to find something in her bag.
After a few more seconds of searching, she brought out a handkerchief and handed it to Vlad.
"Uh... thanks?" Vlad said, taking it from her.
"Sira! Hindi 'yan yung surprise. Takpan mo mata mo." Anna replied.
"Huh? Kailangan pa ba talaga ng blindfold?" Vlad protested.
"Pwede ba, 'wag kang kj? Isuot mo na!" She insisted.
Vlad rolled his eyes and shrugged his shoulders, giving in and putting it on. She led him to god knows where. Vlad was familiar with the layout of the apartment building, but not enough to have the faintest idea where she had taken him. They took countless twists and turns, going up and down stairs.
"Malayo pa ba tayo?" Vlad said grumpily.
"Oo, malapit na. Teka lang." She said, leading him up some stairs that he was pretty sure they just walked down a few minutes ago.
Umiikot-ikot lang ata tayo sa building...
He heard a notification ping from Anna's phone. He assumed Anna checked her phone since they stopped walking for a few seconds.
"Ayan, okay na." Anna mumbled to herself.
Okay na ang ano?
Anna led Vlad around a bit longer before he heard the sound of her opening a door. Even with the blindfold on, he could tell that whatever room they just entered was dark.
