The sun was filtering throughout the holes in the canopy of trees above me. Birds chirped happily. The rabbit I was watching continued sniffing around, completely oblivious to my wolf's presence.

I wasn't going to hurt it, I just liked watching them, so innocent and peaceful. I never hunt unless it's necessary, so instead I watched.

Those who pray on the innocent for the high of the hunt disgust me. I hate it.

So lost in thought, I didn't hear the snapping of twigs or the rustling of leaves until the rabbit stood on its hind legs and twitched it's ears listening to the advancing possible threat. I listened too, perking my ears and heard two large animals coming in my direction.

The rabbit suddenly sped off to the underbrush, leaving me alone. I lifted my snout to the air and inhaled deeply. Wolves. They weren't from my pack either. Curious, and not wanting to scare them off, I backed away to where I wouldnt be seen.

Moments later, two huge black wolves came trotting by me. Looking at them I noticed they were way too big to be ordinary wolves. Shifters! My wolf whispered harshly at me. I looked at them again, you could see in their body language that they were indeed shifters, but what brought them all the way out here?

The larger of the two thrust his snout up in the air and inhaled deeply before nodding his head to his companion. They continued at a faster pace now, once they were far enough away, I came out and began to trail them.

By the time I stopped I saw them in a clearing facing away from me. They were looking at something, their bodies blocking my view. I began circling around the clearing to get better look when I heard a small whimper. Now standing off to the side but still hidden, I saw them towering over a pup that was half their size. I recognized the pup as one from my pack. He was a dark grey average wolf, not a shifter. I watched a minute longer and saw as the smaller of the two shifters leaned forward and nipped the side of the pup with his teeth. The pup whimpered again before he kneeled down and showed submission to the shifters.

The smaller shifter bared his canines and his shoulders shook with what might be considered a wolfy laugh. The larger wolf swatted at him with his paw and let out a small growl filled with authority. Brushing it off the smaller shifter nipped at the pup again, this time drawing a little blood. The pup let out a low growl towards the shifters and quickly raked his claws against the shifters face.

The shifter looked stunned for a moment before turning furious, he was leaning on his haunches ready to pounce. NO! My wolf snarled as took off in a sprint to the pup, my paws digging into the ground throwing up dirt with each step. Within seconds I was standing in a protective stance in front of the pup growling fiercely at the two shifters.

They both seemed taken aback by how quickly I was there standing in front of them, ready to pounce at a moment's notice. Quickly looking back at the pup I let out a yip and nodded my head in the direction to our pack, telling him to go. The pup scrambled to his feet and took off in a sprint towards the others, leaving me to deal with the two...problems.

Letting out a lethal growl I narrowed my eyes at them. They both widened their eyes and took a step back. They turned to each other and I could tell they were having a silent conversation. I let out another low growl and they turned their attention back to me.

The larger of the two took another step back as his muscles and bones began to move under his rippling skin. There was a few pops and cracks before he was standing at a good 6'3 tall....completely naked.

He took a cautious step towards me then stopped and raised both of his hands in the air as I let out another low growl.

He waited a moment before attempting to advance on me again, his hands still raised in the air. I just let loose another growl before pawing at the dirt in front of me. That was the sign every wolf or shifter new as a challenge.

I was outraged when he just doubled over in laughter. I growled louder than before and took a step closer to him. He continued to laugh as his friend shifted and stood by his side a few inches shorter. "Dude, she's ....challenging you!" His friend said between fits of laughter.

The larger man just laughed harder before saying "I'm not gonna fight a...girl, even if she is a shifter!"
At that, I attacked.
