Comic books. They all have a hero, a villian, and maybe a sidekick. My life is probably based on a comic book. If it is, I would probably want to tell the comic book artist to make my life less dreadful. 50% of the people in my world have some sort of power. Some powers are feared like blood related powers and such. Some powers are praised like super strength or flashy powers. And the rest, well, the rest are neither feared or praised, they are just simply there. You're probably wondering what type of power I have. Well, let's just say you'll find that out later.
I can tell you now that I am not a villain or a hero. I do mercenary work for the HSA (Hero Society Alliance). I bet you're thinking right now "Erika what the hell is that?!" Well to put it simply I catch bad people before it becomes a problem for the heroes. Take down secret organizations that are slowly building up, certain people who may be threats. But I do one thing the heroes can't. I can kill the bad guys. You see if heroes killed the bad guys they would look as bad as the villains to some of the public eye. The only people who can without getting caught are people like me or more underground heroes.
And yes before you ask I do this for the money. I'm an orphan. Been one since I was seven. A fire burned down my home and the HSA took me in because of my power. They thought I would be more useful there than in any orphanage. I can't remember who my family is. All I remember from my childhood is the fire. Hell, I can't even remember my last name. Doctors said it's some post traumatic stuff or whatever. Like my brain doesn't want to remember because of my traumatic childhood. I say that's bullcrap and it's probably just long term memory loss but what do I know, I mean I can't even remember my last name.
What am I doing currently? Well, the HSA assigned me on a mission to kill some guy who runs a human trafficking ring. If I'm being honest, I'm glad they assigned me to take down a bastard like him because he deserves it.
I followed his license plate to this abandoned warehouse in the middle of nowhere. I climb the fire escape to the roof of the warehouse. Then see an open window. Bingo. Once into the window I take a look around.
The warehouse is dark and quiet. You could probably hear a mouse squeak. I was standing on a platform on the top level of the warehouse. I look down toward the bottom level and see... prison cells? There's no guards around either. Feeling this is a trap I text my location to my team and ask for medical care and backup just in case.
"Where am I?"
The voice is faint as a whisper but enough for me to know that there's a hostage down there. I go over the railing on the upper level and jump down. Make sure my hood is over my head so I don't expose myself. I turn around and see about 5 women in the cells. 3 unconscious, 2 injured but awake.
"Who are you?" "Please don't hurt us!" The two women say with their raspy voices. I could tell they hadn't eaten and were probably thirsty.
"Don't worry. I'm here to save all of you." I whisper. I grab my backpack and take out two waters and hand them through the cell. In order to gain their trust I let my mask down to only show my face. Once they see it I quickly cover it. "I'm going to look around for the key." They nod gulping down the water like it's their life source.
"Hey! You're not supposed to be in here!"
I hear a voice approach with the door swinging open and 2 men that looked very built, one shorter and one taller, both with black outfits came into my vision. Since it was dark I couldn't make much out of their faces but what I could tell just by looking at them they were probably the bodyguards of the real boss in charge of this mess. Their demeanor while frightening didn't offset their appearance. The outfits they wore were disheveled and by announcing their presence when I could be a hero or investigator it shows me they aren't that smart.
