He'd send her apologies. Boxes of chocolates. Postcarts written until there wouldn't fit more words than there already were.
She cried every time there came a new apology. A long time ago she gave up on hating him. It didn't work. But she couldn't tell him. She was too ashamed of herself.
Trying to like someone else didn't work either. She could only think about him.
But he had given up. For days they didn't have any contact. The days turned into months and the months turned into a year.
She'd written a letter once, describing how much she loved him and one day, she thought she'd post it.
Only, it was never her intention for him to find out.
One thing was forgotten. He knew her from inside and out. Of course he would recognize her handwriting.
But it was too late, he proposed to another girl. The day she sent the letter, she got one, too.
It was an invitation to their wedding. She thought she had to go. To say goodbye. To say she was sorry for acting like a crazy girl.
Luckily, there were more than six months before the wedding. So she could practise how to act.
He gave up on her. That didn't mean he stopped loving her. In fact, he couldn't remember a when he hadn't loved her as much as he did then.
He thought he could forget her.
Until he got that letter.
