John didn't seem very affected by Sherlock's return. Everyone's routine was perfectly normal. John went about his business as he would have if Sherlock had never been gone. Sherlock sat quietly, only getting up when necessary, like if he needed to play his violin, or eat, or go to the bathroom.
Sherlock could tell that John had needed him to return. Things could have taken a turn for the worst if he hadn't come back at all. Sherlock could tell that the second he appeared in the door.
John's gun had been sitting on the computer table, not touched for a while, but he never left his gun out. Never. The pattern that he kept going through, only getting up for tea, suggested that he didn't know what else to do except get tea. He hadn't spoken anything for almost a year, and even for John, that's strange.
When Sherlock had come through the door he knocked something over and Mrs. Hudson had immediately rushed out and dropped what she had been holding, and then letting out a small scream. Sherlock had explained the entire situation very quickly, he had needed to see John as quickly as possible.
Mrs. Hudson understood and explained what John had been doing the past few months. After she was done, Sherlock rushed up the stairs and arrived at the door, expecting an interesting reunion, interesting being John trying to severely hurt him. That didn't happen though, and Sherlock had been honestly shocked.
John hadn't even bothered to ask 'what the hell' had happened and how he had survived. Sherlock planned to explain soon, but only when John asked him to.
