Burning. The stench of charred flesh singed the nose hairs as she breathed in. Waving her hand to waft the smoke away as she coughed. The thick smoke made it hard to see in front of her but it became clearer the more she walked forward.
A cloak of black filled her vision the second she came to a bridge, that bridge. The one her brother died at, the one he spent his last breath. The one at where she lost everything.
A figured appeared before her, it's legs and arms were uneven and one of the ankles was bent out of place. It traveled closer to the terrified teen, it's face being illuminated by an unknown light source. Now she could see and with horror written on her face she recognized the figure. It was her brother, his body, the night he died.
"Vora..."
she heard the body of her brother call out, his mouth agape and eyes wide. A groan came from him as he stood a small distance away. Within the blink of an eye her brother was before her. He reached out with his hand gripping her throat with viscous ferocity. "You could have saved me," Voraati cried not being able to move, paralyzed with fear. "you let me die!" He applied more force to her neck. It felt like she couldn't breathe let alone move, all she could was endure this nightmare. "This is your fault, all your fault!" His voice bellowed being dragged out into the void of darkness that surrounded them.
"Vora!"
The call to her name did not come from her brother this time. It sounded too feminine to be coming from him.
"VORA!"
There it was again but louder this time. She felt her entire body shake and the grip her brother's body had on her vanished.
Gasping awake she felt two hands shaking her arms franticly. In a panic she tried to stand up to see who was attacking her but to no avail as the hands that shook her awake held her firm. " Vora, it's me, Vi! You need to calm down." She immediately recognized the voice and relaxed letting her tears flow down her flushed cheeks. Vi hugged the girl close to her, cradling her head to her chest. Vora wasted no time wrapping her arms around her taking in the warmth and comfort of the pinkette's embrace. "It's okay, I'm here Vor. I'm here." Vi took her hand from the back of Voraati's head and pulled her face up resting it on her cheek and tucking a strand of hair that was stuck to the lavender girl's forehead behind her ear.
"Still having those nightmares, huh?"
The trembling girl nodded. Afraid that if she uttered a word then she wouldn't be able to control her sobs. She shakily exhaled resting her forehead against Vi's. "I'm sorry you still have those..." Vora shook her head gently. "You don't need to be sorry, it's not in anyone's control." She frowned. Nothing more could be better than never having to dream of her brother's lifeless body blaming her every night. Besides maybe Vi, the thought startled her. She didn't disagree but there was something more to that thought than she wanted to admit to herself. "Still, you don't deserve to have to deal with that." Vi said petting her lavender hair and pulling her head to her chest once again. Breaking her train of thought she settled comfortably into Vi's arms, taking in her smell of old clothes and a trace of soap. She must have bathed today while Vora was sleeping. They both sat there until her shaking stopped and once she did finally calm down Vi detached from Vora. A frown appearing on her face for a split second did not go unnoticed but Vora didn't bother to comment on it. Vi started to walk away toward her bed before there was a hand latched onto her forearm. "Could I... could I stay with you? Just for one night." Vora watched her turn with a look of relief on her face, strange. "Of course, just no funny business." Vora smiled and chuckled, "How could I resist? You're the hottest girl 'round town." Vi laughed.
