Chapter 28

A few weeks later 

McKenzie was laying on Jason's bed it was about 3 in the morning she hadn't been able to sleep she had felt like she was taking over his life and she didn't like that. She sat up looking over at him while he was spinning around in his desk chair. He had been very good at helping her and sensing when something was bothering her.  "Thanks for letting me be here but I feel as if I'm intruding."

He stopped spinning in the chair looking at her. He had known it was coming but he had been dreaded it. He liked McKenzie and he didn't want anything to happen to her he wouldn't be able to live with himself. "You are not intruding."

"You are helping me without even really knowing who I am why?" Even if he said it she didn't think that it was going to stay that way for long. The two of them belonged in different circles they weren't meant to coexist. "You can't like me. People like you can't fall for people like me."

He got up going to kneel in front of her taking her hands. He knew that she was scared she wasn't used to this and that was why he had been trying to slowly help her and not rush her.  "Hey no one deserves to go through something like that. Stay you will be safe here it doesn't matter what circle you're from. Or who you are social status doesn't matter to me it never has. What matters is that i ran into a girl that was scared out of her mind and i found a way to help ease that. I like you McKenzie and i want to help you i'll keep you safe."

"I don't want to get hurt again. " She liked him she did but she didn't want him to regret this in the future. She was more worried about getting hurt again she didn't trust easy and she was starting to trust him and she didn't want to be hurt by another person she trusted. 

"You won't." He would always do his best to help her and always keep her safe that he could promise.

Chloe was sneaking into her school yeah why she knew that it wasn't the smartest thing, but she needed to train. She felt like she was getting weak and was a sitting duck. And she knew that her school had a pretty handy gym she had done this once or twice. She walked into the gym turning on one of the lights she sat her bag down taking her jacket off.

She was about to warm up first when she heard slow claps. She took a breath hoping that it was anybody but one of her brothers. "Please don't be one of my brothers."

"For a girl that is supposed to be the Salvatore's secret weapon you're an idiot."

She turned glaring at James she had only met him once but she didn't trust people off of first impressions no way. "What are you doing here?"

He smirked walking down the bleachers he had originally thought that it was going to harder to get to her but it seemed that he was wrong. "Never heard of third times a charm."

"I don't believe in that shit." She was sure that someone was going to catch her but she never thought it would be him. 

"Well, you should." He knew that she hadn't done it to see if she could get away with it. This was the third time she had sneaked into the school and she always forgot the alarms and he was glad to see the girl he needed to get close to was making it to easy for him. "What in your right mind convinced you to sneak into the school. You forgot the alarms." And since he had made sure he knew anything dealing with the school he was alerted the minute the alarms went off. 

Chloe knew that she wasn't always the stealthiest but after sneaking in three times could you really blame her. "You never answered the question what are you doing here?"

"I have this place wired and the first time you did it you set the alarms off the second when you remembered the alarms you triggered something else." James could tell that she was settling and that she was nervous he had done his research. She had been scared for her life she trained and became a weapon in order to protect herself and her sister. And she was getting comfortable which was making her lax and leaving her open to vulnerability. "Don't you have 7 brothers I'm sure one of them could help you so that you don't have to train here or maybe your own house I'm sure there is plenty that you can use there."
