Five years have gone by and most of the things in my life remained exactly the same. I graduated from college with high marks which pleased my mom and dad enough to let me move out into my own apartment. I got a job in an advertising company. Work was easy but life wasn't. Christy and Ryan got together and now they are business partners. I knew from the moment I met Ryan that he was her soulmate. They own a cafe in town which was famous among couples. Talking about my soulmate or the person I thought was my soulmate didn't keep his promise. John left for work in the UK and I lost all contact with him since last year. He didn't try to reach out neither did I. Not all guys keep their promises. I still believe that it was not intentional. Maybe he is busy. I know that it's stupid. But I love to believe it that way.
"Welcome!!" I walked into the cafe and Ryan welcomed me which was very unusual. "I'm not here to meet you!" I laughed and pushed him away.
"Hey, you look nice today!!" Christy said handing me my daily dose of coffee. "I look awful and I know that!" I said sipping my coffee. We were chatting about life and suddenly the cafe door opened ringing the bell at the door.
"Hii Welcome to 'The busy bean' what can I get for you?" Christy asked the customer as I moved aside. He somewhat looked familiar. I stared at him trying to remember. He ordered his coffee which sounded very classy like he knew everything about coffee. He turned around to catch me staring at him. I suddenly looked away.
"Ohh You're Kriti Right?" He asked me and I was surprised. "Umm Yeah. How come you know me?" I asked smiling awkwardly.
"You don't know me personally but do you remember the cafe near the college. I used to work there and we have seen each other almost every single day." I snapped into realization. He was the good-looking guy who almost every single girl crushed on. And he was still handome.
"Ahh, I remember!" I noticed that Christy and Ryan were staring at me to death.
"I'm Martin By the way!" He put his hand forward. I shook his hand and now I remember his name. He even followed me on Instagram. "I gotta go I'll see you around.." He said smiling at me."And nice coffee!" He grabbed his stuff and walked out of the cafe. I looked at Christy and she was smiling at me.
"What?" I asked her. "I didn't say anything!" She said. "I can read your eyes, Miss," I replied.
"Did I miss anything?" Ryan asked in confusion. "You explain to him I'm late for work. Bye! And thanks for the coffee!" I rushed out of the cafe and ran towards my workspace. I bumped into someone spilling my coffee and my files all over the ground. I sat down to pick those up apologizing to the person I bumped into. "Are you fine?"That's when I realized it was Martin. He bend down to help me Our eyes met just like how it does in movies. He looked into my eyes as I got lost in his. I suddenly looked down grabbing everything recklessly. "Thank you and I'm sorry." That's all I said and I walked into my office. I ran into the elevator breathing heavily. I could feel my heart rise so fast. I walked toward my desk throwing myself on the chair.
"Heyy. Did you prepare the presentation?" It was my colleague moreover my best friend in office.No one but Apoorva. Yes, she joined the same company as mine which was a huge relief.
"Yes, I did!" I started searching through my bag only to realize that I dropped the USB flash drive with all the resources on the floor. "Oh shit!" I rushed downstairs. I ran out of the building to the place I crashed. I started looking around. There were traces of my coffee but nothing more. I walked back to the office on the verge of crying. This project was that important for my team and it was my first project as the head of the team. All the worse things that could happen due to this flashed before my eyes. I sat on the couch in the waiting lobby burying my head in my hand.
"Hey..You dropped this." I looked up and it was him with the USB. I snatched it from his hand and hugged him. The moment I did it I started regretting it. I quickly pulled away."I'm so sorry about that!" I said embarrassed. "No, it's fine!".
"Did you come here just for this? " I asked him."Actually, you are advertising for my company." He said smiling at me. "You own the coffee company?" I couldn't believe my ears. I was standing in front of my client in the worst way possible."Yes, I do."
"I gotta go I'll see you at the meeting." I turned around to walk away. "Kriti.." I looked back. "Would you like to have dinner with me tonight?" I stared at him. Silence flowed between us. 'I'll think about it.." I replied and walked away.
I got in the elevator. I looked into my phone. A picture of John and me flashed on my screen."No this is not right. You love him and you are not ready for this. Kriti pulls yourself together." I went into the restroom looked at myself in the mirror. Why cant he keep his promises? Why does he hurt me always in the end? I just know one thing.. I'm still waiting for you hoping that you would show up one day.
