[Ch3] Background Checks

Suga walks into the living room "Hey" "Hey Suga-San" replied Yamaguchi . "Is he okay?" Sugawara asked, obviously concerned for the younger "Yeah, he will be" Yamaguchi sighed with a soft smile on his lips.

"Y'know" Sugawara began "That whole scene reminded me of a similar situation I went through" Yamaguchi sat and listened to his senior intently. "In middle school I got bullied quite alot, so i kinda suffered from depression" Yamaguchi's eyes widened at this new found information but he didnt say anything, urging the other the carry on "So when I started my first year of high school I thought I could put the past behind me and just be all happy-go-lucky in front of other people with out a care in the world. It worked for a while till it was finally swimming season and we had to swim for our P.E classes." Sugawara took a deep breathe before continuing. "They saw the scars"

Sugawara let a tear slip at the memory "...my friends saw the scars and still went on to think it was just a crazy way of trying to gain attention. 'Nah Suga you're to happy for that' they said, 'You'll get over it'. It really was heartbreaking and actually triggered something in me causing me to relapse" A deafening silence filled the room. All that was heard heard was Tsukishima's soft snores. Yamaguchi decided to break the silence after around 45seconds. "I'm sorry you had experience such betrayal Suga-San."

"It's okay, I'm finally genuinely happy with life so no need to apologise." Suga answered with a smile "but the reason I told you is so I can try help you guys. I understand how little comments that seem like nothing can pile up into something much worse, that just because it doesn't seem like a big deal right now, it doesn't mean it wont be a problem in the future" Yamaguchi nodded in understanding. "So how can you help?" Suga thought before answering his underclassman "How about you tell me a sort of backstory on Tsukishima's emotional state or something?"

"Well.." Yamaguchi said thinking back "believe it or not, when we were younger Tsukki was actually a pretty bubbly person, always giggling and making stupid jokes -he still makes those stupid jokes- " Yamaguchi explained with a lovestruck smile plastered on his face. He really loved talking about his boyfriend. "He kinda was really big on family too, he love, love, loved his family. He actually dragged me to meet his mom when she came to pick him up from school one day." Sugawara just smiled at the sweet story while Yamaguchi continued, "we were so close that my mom allowed us to have a sleepover at his house" Yamaguchi's smile faltered for a second, while tears began to brim inside his eyes

"So Tsukki's dad actually picked us up that day to go to their house. He was so excited, jumping every where,not being able to sit still. He actually got scolded in the car for not having his belt on and jumping around," Yamaguchi chuckled at that "but we know stubborn he can be, so his dad looked back at us with a glare telling Kei to actually sit down and behave. He listened ofcourse, he didnt wanna make his father mad. But..." He took a deep breath "but right after Tsukki buckled his belt and his dad faced the road again, we got caught in a collision and Kei's dad died instantly from the impact."

Sugawara took some time before looking at Yamaguchi and asking, "he blames himself, doesnt he?"

"Yeah, he didn't really like showing too much emotion after that, he didn't want to hurt anyone the same way he hurt his family, he still has nightmares of that day" Yamaguchi expressed with a stray tear leaving his dark brown eyes. He looked at his boyfriend letting his hand make their way through the blonde locks "Took him about a year of counseling to actually start expressing some things to his family and me, he still doesn't like showing what he feels infront of other people, leading people to think it's weird when he does, causing him to shut the emotions out even more. It's an endless cycle." Suga nodded showing he understands.
"I really do try to help, but I'm not the best motivational speaker" Yamaguchi chuckled nervously.

Suga was about to speak when he was interupted by the sound of the living room door opening. He saw the rest of his teammates enter the room. He then turned his attention back to Yamaguchi, "How about we talk about it properly tomorrow, with Tsukishima as well." Yamaguchi nodded before he made himself comfortable in his sleeping bag he shared with his blonde boyfriend, he noticed that said boy forgot to take off his glasses. With a smile he took them off for the boy and looked at Sugawara, "Goodnight Suga" "Goodnight Yamaguchi"

He turned back to the sleeping blocker and kissed the tip of his nose "Goodnight, Love" and drifted off to sleep completely ignoring the other team members.
