Chapter 7: The Hooky Monster (part 1)

Jedaaaaa...Jedaaaaa... JEDA! Oomph!

"Jeda, would you mind getting your hands from around my neck?" Aiden asks calmly

"Whoops sorry Aiden," I say sheepishly as I get up from pinning him to the floor "you kind of caught me off guard."

"Is this what your alarm clock went through every day? We need to buy a new one, fast," Aiden continues rubbing the area around his neck while I get my bearings.

 I'm wearing the t-shirt and shorts from last night and I'm in my new room in my new apartment. I kind of feel free now that we're out here. No annoying drill sergeants to listen to, no more Addison Davis, nope, this is a new start.

"So how are you feeling?"Aiden asks, patting me on the back.

"It's new, but I like it. I feel like Jeda Smith can be anyone she wants to."

"I know what you mean. On my second day of my first mission, I was seriously considering quitting Gryphon."

"WHAT!" Aiden had never told me this before "why?"

"Gryphon's just changed a lot since we were little. It seems like they're hiding something, you know?"

It's true. Gryphon has definitely changed. For the better or for the worst, I don't know yet.

"Enough with all this serious stuff!” Aiden yells and gives me a hug.   Why don't you go to the girls and get something clean to wear." Aiden says while walking out my room and see that he is wearing a fresh set of clothes.

Five minutes later I'm knocking on Serenity and Ella's door. Serenity opens the door looking as bubbly and cheery as only Serenity can pull off at 7 in the morning.

"Hey Jeda! What brings you to my humble abode?" Serenity asks through her massive grin.

"Well I was wondering if I could borrow some clothes for today. G didn't pack any for me so Aiden and I will have to go shopping later."

"You mean you don't have any clothes!?" She gasps "come inside so I can grab something for you" Serenity doesn't wait for an answer before she drags me into the apartment.

I look around to see that the girls have put a little bit of their personalities into the apartment. The walls are painted a vibrant orange, a few pop art painting are scattered across the wall and there is a giant fluffy bean bag chair accompanying the brown leather tan sofa.

Serenity disappears somewhere in the apartment just as Ella walks out of the kitchen holding to mugs of steaming coffee.

"I heard you at the door and thought you might want something to drink, while Serenity digs her way through her closet." She says and hands me one of the steaming mugs.

“Thanks Ella” I take a small sip of the caffeinated drink “So how come I’ve never met you before?”

“Well the Gryphon’s compound is huge. I was probably in another sector.” She shrugs

“Yah, you have a point there” I reply just as Serenity skips back into the room with a mischievous grin. In her hands she has a pair of white shorts and a turquoise top. She throws the clothes at me and takes my coffee.

“Go get dressed and meet us at the car in ten.” She says making shooing motions at me

After I change I pop into my apartment to tell Aiden I’m going to catch a ride with Ella and Serenity. I jog outside to where Ella and Serenity are waiting in the cherry convertible. Serenity jumps into the driver’s side while Ella gets in the passenger seat and I climb in the back. In no time the three of us are off on our way to Madison. Ten minutes into the ride I notice something very wrong with this picture.

“Wait guys, isn’t school down that way” 

Serenity snickers and looks at me in the rear view mirror “I said ‘let’s go’ I didn’t say ‘let’s go to school’!” Ella tries to hide her laughing behind her bag, but fails miserably. Looks like I’m going on an adventure! Note the sarcasm.

Serenity is humming innocently as we pull up in front of a big building. She turns off the car before she faces me.

“Ok Jeda, here’s the deal. I know you’ve never been to a place like this before and I know you’re mad at me, but can you please try and enjoy one of life’s wonders.” I simply nod.

“With that over with, I would like to introduce you to a girl’s favorite thing. The mall!!” Serenity squeals and pulls me an Ella out of the car and towards the crowded building.

Serenity is practically shoving people out of her way until we reach the store she’s looking for.

“Right people, Here’s the game plan. Ella you’re in charge of accessories and shoes while Jeda and I hit the racks. Let’s move people! Go go go!” Serenity yells and hastily claps her hands together. Ella disappears in a flash of red hair and leaves me stranded with Sergeant Shop. Serenity finds a rack which she says has “major potential” and gets to work.

Bzzz bzzzz bzzzz

I pull my phone out of my pocket to find an angry text from Aiden.

WHERE THE HELL R U?

I quickly reply, knowing that Aiden might blow a fuse.

Serenity and Ella r kidnapping me to go shopping. I’ll meet up wth u at hme aftr schl.

After trying on ten different outfits, Ella appears with two shopping bags of shoes and one with accessories.

“Goody the toppings for the beautiful cake I’ve made are finally here.” Serenity proceeds to play Barbie doll with me for the next three hours.

At check out Ella pulls out a slick black credit card and hands it over to the cashier.

“Well looky who we have here, the three billy goats gruff.”  A voice says from behind the counter.

“And here I thought this day couldn’t get any worse.” I moan and bang my head on the counter.

“Yah whatever Kyd. Can you just pack up our stuff and give Ella back her card.” Serenity snaps and pulls our stuff off the counter when Kyd finishes packing. “And please let’s not do this again.” Serenity hooks her arms through ours and pulls us both out the store.

“See ya later ladies!” Kyd calls after us.

“And I hope those bruises never heal you jerk!” Serenity shoots over her shoulder.
