Scarlet
I woke up to the smell of bacon. My eyes fluttered open, and I looked around a room that wasn't my bedroom.
"What the-" I started but then stopped after remembering what had happened. Ivan, cookies, blizzard, and Jay. My thoughts were stopped short when the sound of Christmas music came flooding through the crack in the door.
Standing up, I walked to the kitchen and the sound of Christmas music rising in volume came with me. I opened the door and saw Jay nodding along to the music as he flipped over a strip of bacon. He was singing along to the music as he twirled over to the waffle iron and opened it. When he turned to go back to the bacon, he saw me and stopped.
"Having fun?" I teased.
Jay's cheeks went red and he ran a hand through his hair. "Just getting in the Christmas spirit, you know?"
I laughed. "I know. Food smells good." I said, changing the topic. Jay looked grateful.
"Yeah, well, when you bake for a job, you learn to do well in the kitchen. Go sit down ad I'll bring your plate out. You fine with water?"
"Yeah. And thanks."
Jay grinned. "It's nothing. Now go." I raised my hands in surrender and walked to the dining room. I sat down and put on the news; my mood instantly plummeted.
"We are currently looking at another blizzard coming into town. Again we urge people to stay off the roads until it passes and we get the roads clear of snow and ice."
"Shit." I whipped around and saw Jay standing there with a plate of bacon and waffles.
"We really need to put a bell on you, dude." I said, trying to shake my disappointment.
"Now is that any way to talk to the person making you food?"
"Right, sorry. Thanks." Jay said nothing and just put my food and water on the table before running off to get his own. I started eating and he came back only moments later. "So what's the plan?"
"What do you mean?" Jay asked after shoving a piece of waffle in his mouth.
"Ever heard of manners?" Jay swallowed and just smiled. "What I meant was that we are both stuck here for the day. So what's the plan?"
"I'm not sure. I mean, today my family was supposed to get the store ready for the Christmas Eve party. I can always do it tomorrow so-"
"I can help decorate."
"What?"
"If you need to decorate the store for your party, I can help you. I love decorating. Especially for Christmas. You should see my bedroom."
Jay smirked. "So forward."
"Wha-shut up! That is not what I meant!" Jay started laughing and I whacked him on the head, only fueling his laughter. "You are so annoying." I muttered.
"I'm just messing with you. I understood what you meant."
"And yet you choose to be a dick."
"Hey, I was just using the lane you gave me. Moving on though, I guess we could decorate. But we also have to bake a lot of desserts."
I made a face. "Yeah, can't help you bake. I'm useless in the kitchen. But I am great with icing."
"Perfect. I'm crap at that. Usually Josie and my mom do that. They leave me and my dad to all the decorating for the bakery. Pretty much only because we are taller than both of them."
