She had been driving for 24 hours now, barely making any stops not even to eat, she was to nervous and scared to do that. Now that it was dark it was getting colder and the wind was picking up and she felt an unsettling chill in her bones that wouldn't go away. Her slim fingers curled tighter around the warm steering wheel of the car as it rocked to the side because of the semi that speed past her on the opposite side of the two lane road. Her mind wondered off to the past five years of her life, her fingers grazed her bare neck, she was now realizing that she could have done a lot of things differently and thing could have been better. Why didn't she see it before, everything he told her was a lie, everything he did was a lie. When did she close her eyes to it, was it the first time it happened and then he immediately apologized. The unending excuses she made for him, she couldn't keep living like that, the had to get out. Snapping herself out of it she quickly shook her head from side to side as if she could physically eject those thoughts from her head, but there was no point thinking about all that now. That's one thing she couldn't do now and that was to feel pity for herself. Just like she had decided to stay in that situation for so long she had to be the one with the strength to get out, there was nothing holding her back. She left without her cellphone because she new he would track her through it, with barely any money since he didn't give her access to it and she never had a full tank of gas so she couldn't get far, thats the way he wanted it. He wanted her to be afraid, of him and the world, making her think that she couldn't live without him, the only fear she had now was that he would catch up to her and find her. By now he must be aware that she left and he would be furious.

She got out of the car and rubbed her hands together in an effort to warm them as the cold and crisp air swirled around her, she felt that cold whip of air hit her neck, her hand automatically covered the back of her as if she had forgetting that the long locks she once had were gone, even though everything was so fresh in her mind. With only a couple of twenty dollar bills in the front right pocket of her jeans, nowhere to go, no one to depend on, and with the needle of the gas tank closer to the E than the F she found herself next to the pump putting in one of her last twenty dollars and saving the rest to get herself something to eat. This wouldn't get her far, but it would at least get her to the next town, which was about 30 miles away according to the sign she had passed a couple of minutes ago. This was it, this was the end of the road for her, that is until she could find a job and make some money so that she could keep on going. She drove away from the gas station hoping she would be able to find a place to park for the night, she looked up at the dark cloudy sky, the moon was barely visible and the clouds didn't allow any star to be seen. She wished that there was a falling star at this moment so that she could make a wish and will all her troubles and unwanted problems away. But that was such wishful and childish thinking, and she just couldn't be that person anymore. She needed to be strong.

Pulling into the small town, the first thing she saw was a diner with a help wanted sign on the door, she parked and put on her sunglasses, even though it was dark outside, her eyes must still be swollen from so much crying. She made her way to the door, OPEN, the sign said 11 pm and it was still open, surprisingly enough, especially for a small town. The bell hanging on the door rang as she walked in, she look around and saw there was only a few people inside, she let out the breath she didn't realize she was holding, it so warm and cozy, compared to the weather outside, looking at the empty seats she picked the one in the corner, where the lights were dimmer and no other seats were occupied near by. She felt safer there, with the wall behind her back, nobody could sneak up on her from behind, and there was a clear view of the door, this corner was where she needed to be, she was used to this now always hiding in the dark corners, never wanting to be seen or noticed.
