two | first day of school

i was about to walk down some really long stairs
i took the first step then...
boom.
i collapsed and started falling down the stairs

'ah' my whole body shook, i woke up , my eyes started blinking a few times. damn it, it was one of those dreams again where you fall down.

i disconnected my phone and checked what time it was
7:00 am
school doesn't start until 8:30 and my new school was only 20 minutes away walking , i had enough time to get ready

before i did, i started texting my best friend violet from back home, god i miss her so much i haven't seen her since summer when i said goodbye because i was going to be moving here.
7:10 am

i put my phone down and started getting ready. i took out some black mom jeans from my closet and put them on with a white turtle neck underneath a cream colored sweater vest
- (i know know, the style is chefs kiss)
i took my hair out from the braids i put them in last night and let my hair that was now a wavy texture, loose

i did my usual routine as in putting everything i needed for school in my bag and went downstairs to eat. when i was pouring myself some milk on my cereal i saw my brother kazu passed out on the couch with beer bottles circling around him. it made me upset this was the type of person he was and how he was in a gang but i trusted him to still make some good decisions.

after i finished everything that needed to be done i got my bag and started walking outside the apartment. i had to take the elevator to go down to the main floor to exit since i lived on the second floor. when i left the apartments i started making my way to school
except one problem.

after i passed the first two street lights i forgot what way i had to take to school.
'left or right?' 'left or right?' were the only thoughts in my head.
damnit.
i forgot what way it was, and i don't know the schools address. i only remember going once in the summer to check it out and see how far it was from home but it feels like it's been forever since that day.

i was staying still looking at the floor trying to remember if it was left or right as i was waiting for the street light to turn green. i kept looking down at my shoes hoping some type of miracle would happen and i would remember but nothing. my mind was blank.

"uh hey, the street light turned green already"

said a stranger behind me causing me to slightly jump as i was lost in my thoughts. i hadn't even realized that he was right. the street light was green.
